having been interested in devils canyon area for a loooong time i finally got into it for a 3 day wander. very nice canyon complex. we hiked down to the spring at the west end of teh canyon, i don't know if the water trough that kelsey speaks of is gone or if it was beyond the spring we stopped at. at any rate the one we camped near was just dripping down from a bench above. also, do not drink that stuff, it'll get ugly. maybe if you filter then boil then iodine it would taste ok and not be so laxative like. ewwwwwwwwww. beautiful complex, and it was such a treat to see no evidence of prior passage. the side canyons were cool to explore, especially one near the west end of devils that had a very fun slot for some ways w/ 1/2 dozen up-then-back-down climbs.

thanks.
when you do hike, take plenty of water ! even filtered that spring "bugged" us. very mild, but not very nice. we thought we would have more sources, but it was bone dry. there were still ice patches but it seems they are just evaporating away. |

| Very nice. I was in that area a few years ago during a 'F$%# the trail' trip to the San Rafael Knob. We were going the wrong way forever and the Knob would always be there but we never got closer, just kept going around. So finally we just said 'f' it and cut through a few canyons to get where we needed to be. Not ideal and added hours to our trip but always fun to explore. |
