Time to do a little caving trip. This cave is the longest cave in Utah. It is about 6 miles long, but doesn't mean we will go the full 6 miles. Sometimes the tunnels are blocked by debris from the river running through it. During the winter, there will be ice formations inside of the cave.
The drive there is about 3.5 hours. I would like to make this into a camping trip. Leave Friday day, camp Friday night, hike Saturday day, and be home by Saturday night.
Required Gear:
Helmet
Light Source x3
Camping Gear
Food
Water
Optional:
Camera
Knee Pads
Elbow Pads
*Does anyone have a map of this cave? |

Oh this looks like a lot of fun. By 3.5 hours, do you mean from salt lake? I'm in St George, but would probably be willing to drive and extra 4 hours to see this place. I'm tempted to just fly in, but that would negate all the camping stuff I could bring. So I guess driving would be better. Hmmm..
Couple questions:
Wetsuits needed? Ice and water sounds really cold.
Ropes and climbing gear?
4X4 clearance for reaching the trailhead? I would rather take my commuter car since the distance is so great. |

It doesn't look like I'll be able to go. I was hoping to do this cave in the winter :frustrated:
I think they plow the paved road all the way up...then there's a dirt road that you'll have to hike. Snowshoes might be nice. It's about 1/3 a mile from the paved road to the cave.
I don't know for sure what conditions you'll find. It can be very wet. The temps inside the cave probably stay pretty constant, but if you're wet as soon as you get back to the entrance it'll probably be pretty cold. Wetsuit might be nice, and a change of clothes would be a good idea. And change of shoes.
Unless you do the nearby toothbrush cave, you won't need climbing gear. |

Hey Jumar, This cave is gated right? The organizer seems to think there is no gate but looking here http://utahcaves.blogspot.com/search/label/Little%20Brush%20Creek%20Cave and here http://ralph.rigidtech.com/view_album.php?set_albumName=Little-Brush-Creek-Cave I see one clearly indicated. I'm worried to drive 8 hours and find a locked door. What ya think?

The gate you see in those pictures (the ones on the utah caves blog are my pics) are for a small cave near the entrance to LBCC, and doesn't have a lock on the gate. Little Brush, which is the main attraction, doesn't have a gate. |

Well come up anytime and we'll do another cave.
Or I should come down there and do a canyon. It's been too long since I"ve been canyoneering. |
