Well I had a noob from corporate in the Northeast asking me to take him to do some ice. He's a cool guy so we decided to go do the stairway last night. It turned out to be a very beautiful night. I was cursing myself all night for not having brought my tripod. :frustrated: So, as a consequence I didn't get too many great shots. But just being there and getting on the ice made up for any photographic shortfall. :2thumbs:
By the way, the ice is still fat even with the warmer weather yesterday. The west side of the 1st pitch is getting a little slushy in some of the less vertical steps where the snow has accumulated. But it's still making for good topos. The east side is in fantastic shape for leading or topo. The far east route under the tree still hasn't filled out much. It's been thinner and thinner these last few years for some reason
All in all it was a very enjoyable evening and it was an awesome night to be out.
Here are a few shots.

Jeff, that reminds me..... weren't we going to climb GWI at night in the very near future? I can go just about any night.... just give me a little warning.... |

Actually, there can be a fair number of crowds just about any time day (or night!).
Last season, mid december, we got a purposely late start to avoid said crowds, and, when we topped out post 6pm, passed another three parties still coming up...
Give me a shout when you go. I could be up for a "dusk" patrol. Only climbed ice back east this season so far (Catskills and 'Daks). Gotta get a lap on the bicycle...
Cheers!
