This year is shaping up to be one of the fastest Speedweeks in history so long as Mother Nature continues to cooperate.

The hot young stripper wife and I will be on The Salt August 6-9 so pack your bag and come on out.

Currently three courses have been groomed. Course #1 is 8+ miles long and will be up to 10+ miles by race day. Course #2 is 8+ miles long and Course #3 at this time is set up to the 2 ¼ timed miles. The salt is smooth, hard, and durable, the thickness of the salt has increased modestly, however the distribution is far more uniform which has led to a smoother and harder surface. The course layout is the same as last year except they are adding course 3. Some of our old timers say they have not seen salt this good in 50 years.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210708/bce2ebc6f485743d7f9df186f1eb5dda.jpg

For those heading out to Bonneville Speedweek... the recent rain storms have missed the salt flats and we should have the best salt we've had in over 30 years.... records are going to falls.

UPDATE 8/2/21:

We have been surrounded by terrible weather for several days, but somehow Mother Nature has shined on us! We got a little rain yesterday, but thanks to Mother Nature, it did not affect the Salt one bit! All 3 courses have amazing Salt! Still the best in many, many years! The forecast is for sunny skies!

We made a ton of progress today. The pits are coming together. We also picked up a ton of trash that had been left behind by other folks. A special thanks to our volunteers for that!

As for progress on the courses: Course #1 is all dressed up! Completely groomed, mile markers are in, turn outs are done, the return road is in. Courses #2 & #3 are also groomed & signs, turn outs, return roads are all in progress. Surveying will be completed in the morning.

Things are really taking shape. About the only the only thing missing is you! Pack all the fast stuff & we'll see ya soon!https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210803/d3578f848ab15b7c6d3c93d0ee9dba39.jpg

I just received this...

Holy s***, 3 microbursts back-to-back wiped out our hard work. It's looking bad but definitely nothing we can't deal with. We will be rebuilding the courses all day tomorrow. Any crews and team members who would like to help see me in the morning, and we can use your help! 951-923-3635 or CB channel 1

Alright... the salt is still good to go but the wind caused some damage... racing is still set to begin Saturday morning.

UPDATE #6 (8/5/21):

Registration/Inspection started today and ran smoothly up until closing time. NEWS FLASH a windstorm hit the salt, winds pushing 80mph! Cones, signs, tents, awnings, etc…were blown away. That being said, if you are coming onto the salt tomorrow morning, please understand there will be workers everywhere. Please be careful and watch out for the workers. Inspection/Registration opening will be delayed. If you have any available crew to help with resetting everything, please come to the Registration Trailer – We will be meeting at 7:00 a.m. but we will except help at all times.

Bring your own drinks and food. In the morning hang out at the starting line, which will be the big group you see to the south.

Yep, there are plenty of women out there who are just fine with exploiting their body and good looks to get ahead financially. They relish the endless supply of cash and constant attention because most of them realize that their beauty will eventually fade so it's best to take advantage when they're young and able.

Speedweek is keeping Life Flight busy this year. Is this a typical year for serious accidents?

If you take a helicopter ride to a Salt Lake hospital are you billed for that?

Iceaxe
08-11-2021, 07:33 PM
This is NOT typical, usually one bad crash a year. Usually a death every couple of years. The helicopter ride is on your dime.

The Salt has never been this good in my lifetime and speeds are up.

Top speed so far... 399.102 mph... I don't expect that to hold...

That time was set with an unblown B motor (373 to 439 ci). There are a lot bigger motors on the salt and many are running forced induction (blower or supercharger).

FWIW - Rockets (and jets) are not allowed at Speedweek. The vehicle must be wheel driven.

How does this compare to Speed Week? Similar format? Rules?

Iceaxe
09-10-2021, 05:38 AM
World of Speed is much smaller than Speedweek, which is both good and bad. The rules for each LSR is the same. The format is also the same.

One hugh difference is YOU can enter your car and attempt to qualify for the 135 mph club, and if you succeed at that you can attempt to make the 150 mph club. This is the only time you can put your street car on the salt and see what it will actually do. Earning entrance into the 135 or 150 club is not as easy as you would think and carries some prestige with it.

I won't be there this weekend as I now have to help my daughter move.

World Finals will be at the end of September. Which again is small, as only the fastest cars in the world are invited to attend.

A person has to reach 135 or 150 mph from a dead stop in 1 mile or less, correct?

A person has to reach 135 or 150 mph from a dead stop in 1 mile or less, correct? Not correct... you must average 135 or 150 through the measured mile... track length depends on salt conditions each year... but this year the track was 8 miles long and fast times were measured between the 4 mile and 5 mile. 5 to 8 are used for stopping.
