Just last night I asked my husband how allowing a minor child to under-go gender reassignment surgery or/and puberty blockers and hormone replacement is any different than genital mutilation (primarily to young females) occurring in parts of the world today? Senator Rand Paul mentioned this exact comparison in his questioning today. For years, we've heard genital mutilation widely condemned as barbaric and inhumane.

Some random thoughts I had the other day about the current state of things...

If you go back through history, you will notice that just about every generation has two opposing factions: the wiser senior folk, who have already reared a family and are in varying stages of retirement (aka 50+), and the younger up-and-coming crowd, who are fresh out of high school, and know everything (around 20 - 35). One of the hallmarks of the younger generation is always a rebellious and cavalier attitude about rules and laws, always pushing the envelope of what society considers proper or acceptable. As an example I will point to the hippies of the 1960's - 70's, and the flappers of the 1920's.

But look at today's younger generation - they do not question authority and the government mandates. In fact, it's in vogue to go along with what the government says you should do - (wear a mask, social distance, get vaccinated, etc). If you question anything the gov't says about Covid then you're blackballed and looked down upon -- or worse, labeled a science denier, or even somehow racist or xenophobic. The liberal media has castrated the critically thinking youth of today, and made it fashionable to go along with big government -- provided that government is under a Democrat banner. It's really pretty sad, and pathetic. Not sure what the path forward to a better tomorrow looks like, or if there even is a viable exit strategy from the current mess we're in.

My neighbor was batshit crazy... she actually called the cops on me many times when I'd show up at one in the morning with some random chick from the latest bar or club I'd been to.

At first the cops would show up in the middle of the night and knock on the door and do a welfare check. After a couple of times and they figured out what was happening they would show up about 10 in the morning for the welfare check. Then they would walk next door and tell the neighbor to stop calling because I wasn't doing anything wrong in the eyes of the law and God would have to judge me when he got around to it. It didn't do one bit of good and she would still call.

During this entire mask fiasco I've been imagining the hell her new neighbor is going through.

I can't read the fine print because it's so small but this is what it looks like:

There's no doubt the cities are much, much hotter because of all the asphalt, dust and concrete, big walls and buildings blaring entire neighborhoods. They argue that in the blighted parts of the city such as industrial areas where people live anyway (the poor) there's a lot less shade cover and those people just bake. So I've got this large group of friends that I've been hanging out with for about 7 years. These all all part of those "liberal group of friends" I refer to frequently. I don't mind that they're (mostly) liberal, but I sure get a mouthful of detail when they tell me how good that Kool-aid was that they drank. So they're true believers, really.

Well, things have changed. Portions of us get together at various times of the year but the Big Kahuna is a gathering in Moab in mid May. It's averaging around 60 core people...more coming and going throughout the week. There's a "core group" of about 30 and I'm part of that group, along with the two dudes that set up the whole camp and kinda call the shots...Rick and Josh. It's been cancelled the last two times because of Covid...so it's on for this September. A week long mountain biking party. Good stuff, good people, lots of fun.

Rick and I don't get along so good. We tolerate each other and I'd like to say he really respects me but is sickened by my politics...even though I try hard to avoid the subject with him. But he just pushes it like he enjoys getting pissed off. Josh and I are good friends but he is quite liberal...just even keeled and genuinely understanding. I just spent a few weeks with Josh and a bunch of other people near the North Wash.

So I get an email about our gathering in Moab and it's been decided that "vaccination is required to attend"...I don't think they're going to be checking for cards but I've been uninvited...Josh knows where I am on this. I think this is completely stupid...I can't come because some people are going to be afraid of me? That's just ridiculous.

So I talked to Josh last night about this and it appears the event (as it's normally held) might not happen at all...as less than 10 people have signed up. Normally there can be anywhere from 50-80 people, with about 25 being regular year after year attendees. There needs to be at least 30 people to make it function...as it costs money for the cooks we hire and the porta-potties, amongst other expenses.

Josh figures it to be people freaked out about Covid, but I reckon it's because the event is usually mid May but they tried to make it in mid September this year and it just doesn't jive. People come from all over the country for this...a week long mini Burning Man kind of thing. So it'll likely be a smaller, less "formal" gathering similar to what Josh and I did in May...we'll pick a campsite and people will just come and go over a couple weeks...biking and canyoneering.

Because the event will almost certainly be scrubbed I didn't have to bust his chops over the "policy"...but we did talk about it a bit. He was on pure defense and agreed with the logic of my argument...in other words he couldn't come up with a way to undermine my point on this even though he had a few days to think about it. He did say that the "squeaky wheels get the grease" so all it takes is a few people to have concerns about it and there's the "policy", as it is. He also admitted that he and Rick didn't think it thru very well or consider those that would be left out.

Leave it up to Byron to walk into the room and rearrange all the furniture, eh? Josh was humble with this...he knew it was wrong.
