I don't have the best luck when it comes to viruses. I got the seasonal flu in the middle of the 2002 games when I was supposed to be sitting on the course during during the men's downhill. Really sucked.

I also got mono when I was 35, very few people get it after 35 and it hit me like a ton of bricks. It was really bad. Affected my liver, pretty scary for me.

So when I started hearing about the hospital stays or near death experiences of people I either know or friends and family members of people I know, I figured I don't want to push my luck. It was a pretty good wake up call for me when Scott P shared his experience with the Covid.

Too selective, too unpredictable for me. I get a flu shot every year, so really not a big deal for me. I just hope I actually got some of the vaccine in me, but I will call the hotline on Monday and ask the professionals.

I've got a bunch of friends I gather with in May for a week of camping out and mountain biking near Moab. Like a big party...there could be 40-70 of us. The two guys that run the show, Rick and Josh, have to decide what the parameters will be in regards to the gathering...it was cancelled last year and everyone is chomping at the bit for that not to happen again this year.

Anyway...Josh sent out an email saying that they will "evaluate" what kind of precautions (if any) will be necessary. Perhaps proof of vaccination or a "recent" negative test. I emailed him back and told him that's nonsense...as anyone in the group can show up with the virus or pick it up in town, bring it back to camp and spew it all over the place. I told him we have to stop living in fear and I would advocate ZERO restrictions and let people decide for themselves if they want to attend or not. Josh is pretty open minded, but Rick is a different story...we'll see what the final call is.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I get sick maybe once a year. I'm willing to roll the dice on Covid since my immune system has always been a steel fortress.

The premise of the video seems pretty reasonable.

To paraphrase, it's basically saying that the efficacy rates of ALL the most prominent vaccines (Moderna, Pfizer, and Johnson & Johnson) don't really matter, and that they are all equally as effective in keeping you alive and out of the hospital.

The efficacy rates of Moderna and Pfizer were around 95%, but that number doesn't really mean anything when you consider the strains and study groups involved. The efficacy rate is a little misleading when you consider all of the most relevant variables.

Inernational travel in the 70's required vaccination cards for proof. I had a card from the State Health dept. tucked into my passport. Depending on the country you were traveling to they would require different vaccines. Cholera shot in 1978 while in Australia heading to Tonga kicked the shit out of me for days. The last one I remember getting was Yellow Fever shot in 1980 before heading to Central America. Was considered no big deal... if you traveled you got shots.When I was in the Navy they shot me up will all kinds of stuff in Boot Camp...they shot everybody up and everybody got sick. But you had no choice. I think I had to get some updated shots when I went to Fiji back in '02...and I keep up on tetnus because I knew a guy who lost his foot when he stepped on a rusty nail.

Covid?...I won't take it seriously until somebody actually puts some effort into finding out where the hell the thing came from. I also think it's a bunch of hype and bullshit. Nobody tells me what to do.

I worked a quick job yesterday for a long time client. She's a very conservative woman and we'll always sit at the dining room table and "catch up" when it's time for me to get paid. She's gotten the shot and is fully on board with it...she believes the "science" and says she'll always line right up for things like this. She's "worried" about me denying it.

I told her I might take it seriously when someone actually starts looking into where the hell this thing came from and why...otherwise I'll go stand over yonder, observing. She doesn't understand my reasoning at all. Funny...taking about the virus led us into a conversation about religion.

The interesting thing about this particular vaccine is the political nature of it. It used to be that people were very, very grateful for vaccines. There is so much misinformation and flat out lies about everything that we sometimes forget to look at the obvious, and that is that this vaccine was quite miraculous in both speed of development and effectiveness. As a reminder, we currently have a list of "mandatory" vaccines and have had them for years, that is if you want to go to public schools or get a visa to travel abroad. When I went on my mission for my church, I think I got every shot known to mankind because Brazil required that I get them before setting foot in their country.

Even though I have had Covid, I will get the vaccine in a few weeks because I want to travel. It is a personal choice, but it is also a means to have more freedom in my life, aka I can go and do what I want with, what I perceive as very little risk. I really don't see this as an issue of freedom or rights being taken from me or a government forcing me to do something against my will. Just like I didn't think it a violation of my rights or freedom when I had my kids vaccinated to go to school.

To me this whole vaccine hubbub is one big 'ole red herring distracting us from focusing on the most important issues of the day, like taxes, government spending, a screwed up balance of power between the three branches of government, inalienable rights being threatened, etc. "Get everyone focused on the vaccine/Covid and we can spend trillions of dollars with no public vetting of our spending, then we can tax them to death because they are scared to death," said the federal government.

I have zero concern about the vaccine. I have major concern about politics and the federal government. The truth seems to be optional with many of our leaders which is a major cause of mistrust and misinformation about this vaccine. What President Biden is doing and his tone is very divisive. One other item I don't see on the news is many Mexicans crossing the border illegally are doing it to obtain the Covid vaccine. Many cross over, get the free shot and cross back. I have zero concern about the vaccine. I have major concern about politics and the federal government. The truth seems to be optional with many of our leaders which is a major cause of mistrust and misinformation about this vaccine. What President Biden is doing and his tone is very divisive. Yes, this country is one of the lowest vaccinated countries per capita among the industrialized nations, so I hear from a doctor friend. But for extreme politics and but for extreme political views clouding facts and common sense, this effective vaccine would have been a non issue. President Biden had a real opportunity to be open, to be honest, to be humble and admit mistakes along the way with this pandemic, in short to create trust. But, he failed. He failed in his leadership and in his leadership team with Dr. Faucci. It is sad, really. The political division and poor leadership in this country has blinded people of both parties to truth, goodness, science, common sense, brotherly love, and many other virtues that seem to be dwindling.It’s not blindness, Scott...it’s leaving the room until something that looks like reality shakes from the tree. Quite frankly, it looks like it’s going to be a long wait. I take a pass when I hear “call within the next 15 minutes” and I never follow the orders of fools. What a circus, huh? The only previous vaccine concern that I am able to recall was the three in one shot (measles, mumps, rubella?) that was rumored to cause autism due to the presence of mercury in the serum. Something like that. Imus raised the issue often on his program. Parents were obviously concerned and wanted answers. Don't recall it being a political football.

On another note, I was exchanging a set box at the Spectrum store. Person in front of me wasn't wearing a mask and the clerk wouldn't serve her. I offered her a used mask that was out in my car.
