Just curious for those with kids in school or know about the school district in your area or maybe you are a teacher or know a teacher...
My kids are in Jordan School District and they just announced that they will be back in school Mon-Thu with Friday being an online day.
I've got family in the Canyon's School District and they are going back as well...full time I believe. I have heard some teachers and parents are complaining. I'm sure most teachers loved teaching online...

I'll let my daughter the school teacher answer this when she sees it... but short story is the online teaching was a massive joke and total waste of time for 90% of the kids. If you actually believe your kids were being taught and learning you're delusional.

Agree. My kids hated the online experience, and the teachers did too.
At first I thought my kids would really like it because they wouldn't have to get up as early, and could do their schoolwork in their pajamas. But to my surprise they all hated it. They can't wait to return to school in person.

My daughter is a teacher also. Her comment is most kids are now already behind 6 months to a year. Catch up is going to be a bitch.

Aside from inflation and national debt, is this the biggest black eye on the lockdowns?

It is one. You looking for a top ten list? Many on here are much more adapt at that than I providing that.

Aside from inflation and national debt, is this the biggest black eye on the lockdowns?I would say the biggest consequence was societal. This trip to the twilight zone really f*ucked up some people's heads. It put hundred of thousands, if not millions, into a state of delirium.
All wound up, and then they snapped. People are seeking an "alternative world" because they can barely manage in the one they're living. The lockdown was great for some, really, really bad for others. Hopefully they'll calm down.

Yeah. This is a really great environment for kids to concentrate and learn in.

Really happy I don't have any in grade school anymore.
Even the college aged had a hard time switching to online. Unless they were already online. Online learning is not for everyone. It will be interesting to see what happens this year. I expect we all get sent home again. I hope not.

Well the Utah Gov said kids will have to wear masks in school. That sucks. Damn...maybe just keep them home.

95099In a teachers defense. Kids are cesspools, little petri dishes. And they are stuck in the same room for 7 hrs with them. Unlike the grocery store where people roam around and come and go. Not exactly the same thing.
I don't blame primary educators that are concerned. This virus is a Russian Roulette game. Some are mildly disturbed by it. Some are flat out killed by it. Others no symptoms but it still it silently wrecks your lungs or other organs.

My wife said it’s optional during recess and lunch. Thanks goodness they get a break. It will be interesting. My youngest is in 1st grade.

I participated in a new middle school ribbon cutting ceremony today. There were several kids there. They were SO excited about school starting on Wednesday. It was great to witness the excitement of the kids, parents and faculty.

Orem school room

Doesnt look like those are mounted down to the desk. I can see ergonomic problems with trying to write in a small confined space. Those barriers are going to be constantly sliding off the desk. How long til foreign debris ( buggers) ends up on them ? I don’t see these lasting very long.
What’s dad is that adults/ parents are praising these efforts along with the mask wearing. I think they will be nothing but gigantic distractions that will greatly negatively impact the learning environment.
What is the over/under on how long in person school lasts? After a few pockets of confirmed cases, entire classes will be cancelled, and then the domino affect of schools, districts, and then the hole system shuts down. I give < 1 month. By Oct 1, school will be cancelled, just as it was in March.

Still sticking with my prediction of Oct 1- shut down of schools again. Evidence to support that:

I'd rather have my kids stop schooling than go back to face-to-face classes. Online schooling is the only choice they have right now. I wouldn't risk their health.

Don't worry, on November 4th it will be safe for all children to return to school.

I guessed you haven't experienced losing a family member due to COVID19. Well I did. Sorry for taking extra precautions on my family's health.

Sorry for your loss. Truly.
Now I'm going to say this, and it's no disrespect to you or anybody, but your family member did not die from COViD. They died from some other cause while also having COVID.
Once again, I'm sorry for your loss. But let's be honest about this virus that it is not the killer.
