St. George area?

My rock-climbing friend down in St. George (who doesn't like canyoneering but who frequently asks me about it LOL) said he came across a picture on Facebook that actually looks like a fun climbing canyon.

I have no idea. I haven't seen this before. Is it even Utah?

Looks Zion-ish, the checkerboard patterns on the rocks

My guess would be either Red Rocks or somewhere in the vicinity of Snow Canyon.

Hmm maybe. I could see the resemblance.

There’s a canyon in Snow C SP that isn’t published (yet) but is known as the “Black Hole” and discovered back in the ‘70s. I haven’t done it but now wonder if that’s it?

Yeah, maybe it is a short one in the Reef, like Quail Creek or something. ?

The area around hidden star is very similar in geology.

But I think we ran most of the others nearby and--nothing

Also maybe the Shear canyon area, we left a few unknowns there.

Bo might be a good source--I think he did more around shear than we did.

Hmm...

I was comparing the rock Geology to other canyons in the area from my albums and its definitely Yant Flat area. It looks short though.

Not Shear, Pussycat, Pigeon Poop, Black Hole (also called Pictograph), Sarahs Canyon(also called Scout Canyon), Dicks, Bolter, Bitter, Hidden Star, Yankee, Quail Creek, Johnson, Island, and a few other ones. .

Curiosity definitely bit me on this one as my heart lives in St. George, and yup I have a dozen or more sources to ask - Bo (like you mentioned) and few more St. George exploring friends

I have a possible locations on Google Earth mapped out so far...

We'll see if we can sleuth this out...

Dicks is Pigeon poop, Shaun(trackrunner) went with us one time and he called it Pigeon poop.

Funny if that stuck.

My old buddy, Tyler, who used to post here some, hiked the area a bit too, he might have an idea.

We had another canyon up above Red Cliffs he named Scarlet but your picture is not that, either.

Him and I spent some time hiking and rapping all over that area trying to find prospects off google earth.

One day, I posted a bunch of those pictures and gave it a canyon name, I got calls-texts-emails, all wanting coordinates.:haha:

That was quite awhile ago on the old aca site.

Thanks everyone! I was looking at another trip's video and noticed this line in the rock. Compare it to the other photo and you will see that it lines up perfectly...

I've been through Hidden Star twice and didn't recognize that angle as we stayed lower. And to think I was getting my tighty whitys in a bunch over Hidden Star too.... :bootyshake:

Anyway, so I told my non-canyoneering climbing buddy and he wasn't too happy...he thought it was a new route in the Reef with some fun sport climbing hidden inside there. Can't please everyone.

Sorry, I'm not sure quite what you mean there?

I was referring that perhaps that this unknown canyon (at the initial time of the posting) was a canyon in the Silver Reef area, such as "Quail Creek Canyon" (which I have not descended and was not sure what it looks like). But come to find out that it was known canyon (Hidden Star) afterall but the picture was taken from a higher perspective which I think threw everyone off.

Many people rap into the canyon from the sides and do random raps inside the canyon. We always just walked in from the head of the canyon and downclimbed everything not rapping any times. Mostly just a short adventure with the pothole to deal with
