View Full Version : Pleaides conditions?
Has anyone ran through Pleadies this summer? I'm headed this weekend and I haven't seen a single TR or mention about Moab canyons since literally last year.
Last year in early June, it was bone dry until you hit the actual spring at the bottom of the last rappel. This year and the La Sal Mountains having up 200% above average snow-pack year....I'm curious. Either way, I'm bringing the wetsuit. I'm asking because I'd like to bring my 73-year old mother for her 2nd descent down it (!!)...if it's not flowing too heavy.

Hey did you run through Pleiades? How was it?

I took a look at it with my 71 year old mother and I decided against taking her down it due to the flow coming in from Brumley creek.
I’ll post a video and photos of what I saw when I get home from work later tonight.
There is still a sizeable flow running through Brumley Creek! I’ve seen this flow in June before but not August. That just tells you how much water there is up this mountains still. (Actually I hiked Mt Peale the day before with my mother and there was 2-3 feet around 10,000-11,000 feet on the north and east sides of that range. Still a bunch of water in those mountains...)
Anyway, if you are with an experienced group then I would say go for it. But plan on getting drenched with those flows though. I would suggest a wetsuit. Not sure on anchor conditions though. But I haven’t seen this much water through the canyon in 10 years.

^^^In stark contrast to last year when it was almost bone dry at this time of year.
Here's a vid I created of our hike and the water conditions for August 1st.

Very nice video Jman. Thank you for posting this.
What was the music? Sounded a little like Ulrich Schnauss -- which, if you're unfamiliar with you should really check out, his music is incredible.

Thanks! I have not heard of his stuff before.
I don’t remember the music name top of my head, but it’s licensed music from soundstripe.com
Have you heard of Nordlight? Two French guys create some cool electronic chill music.
