Brag time, sorry. Not really.

WeatherBug is featuring my video right on the home page of their app. I'm not sure how long it's been going on, but I thought this was cool to see.

Congrats @Somebeech.

It cracks me up at the ignorange of all the fools that have commented on that vid that say "That's not the GSL. I've been there. I've seen it. That's not what it looks like". Amazing how ignorant people are.

Ha ha, yeah. Even more, are all of the people asking me for directions of how to get there. So I had to put out a warning to as many as I could, saying it's a VERY boring drive to get there, and if they can't see it from the air, it's going to suck pretty bad. So I hope there aren't a bunch of people driving out to Promontory Point in the middle of nothing just to see a stinky colored lake from ground level.

I had to fly out a mile from the road to get these shots, so there will be some disappointed Instagrammers when they get there.

The troll in me says you should sell it like you're sharing the location to El Dorado, and tell each and every one of them individually to keep it a secret. Send them off to the southern tip of the Newfoundland Range and then if they get frustrated or get lost tell them they did it wrong. :lol8:

That would be funny. It is a long boring boring drive, but it's past ATK, and the Golden Spike park or whatever it's called is not too far off the trail. I could make up all kinds of clues to get out there.

I'm still getting dozens of comments on my video on Instagram that this is "Not in Utah because I've lived here and haven't seen this"

I flew over GSL (albeit a small part) in 2016 and I did not see such lovely colours, so it's great to see the true colours of the lake. I have been to salt lakes in Africa and other countries, and depending upon the type of salt (and there are many as any Chemist will tell you) determines the colour of the solids.

But I did see the amazing engineering that went into constructing the road and rail crossings:

EXPOSED!! :lol8:

Where do they propose that your shots come from then, if not Utah? Most folks who are making those claims have never even been to Saltair let alone the other side of the lake lol.

But I did see the amazing engineering that went into constructing the road and rail crossings:I assume you're flying over the southern part, navigating around the dugway military proving grounds and such. These colors are up on the northern end. The different ponds are in the north east, and then there's promontory point that comes down as a peninsula. Most of my video is right there at the tip, and then north west.

Then this one too. You'll find the most entertainment in the big accounts. All kinds of theories of where the colors come from, why did they ruin the lake by building the causeway, blah blah

You have to get north of the train causeway to get the wild colors.

FWIW - I believe the pink is brine shrimp. During the brine shrimp harvest the boats send up a spotter plane to locate the shrimp.

The red is the higher level of salinity, it's more concentrated on that side, and it's a good 3 feet lower than the south side. The brine shrimp are a little bit of it, but their color comes from the salinity too. You'll see the other multi colored ponds that are lighter pink, fading into white, it correlates with the water depth, more visible in this video

All they'd have to do is look at your profile. Hmmmm....dozens of videos of Utah shot within Utah.....But somehow this video is somewhere in Zambia? :ne_nau:

I've also read a good number of criticisms against "man" for building a causeway through the middle of this otherwise beautiful lake.

I've also read that my video was shot in the early 1990s because it's not that color anymore. I've learned a lot about my video from people on Instagram.

They should just write textbooks from the collective opinions expressed in social media. Hell, I think they drafted the Green New Deal in this same manner.

Why deal in facts and reality when opinions and speculation are so much easier to come by?

I can't believe SL Trib would publish this pic and have the nerve to claim that it is of the GSL. Anyone who has ever been out to SaltAir knows that the lake doesn't look like that. :angryfire:

Oh man, this is happening right now on FB to me currently. I’m part of my city’s unofficial FB page and someone posted a KUTV article saying how Mormon leaders are mocking suicide with a pill bottle called “anti-boo-hoo-tics”.

If you actually read the article rather than just speculate of what happened, it was just in bad taste object lesson. They were not “mocking” suicide in the least. In fact, the group just got done discussing the effects of suicide and the pill bottle was used that said 1-800-Prayer on it. There was no “mocking” anywhere of the subject.

Long story short, I get gang-attacked by 3 adults saying that I should stop defending the church and this suicide pill bottle, when that wasn’t even the case at all...In the slightest.

Anyway, and of course, they resorted to many logical fallacies and ad hominems and one guy even mentioned to me that “joking about killing/suicide in the slightest shouldn’t be tolerated” (which I wasn’t), and then 15 min later tells me to “get lost” and “go play in traffic”. So I called him out on it as a hypocrite and being a coward by not responding to my questions.

12 hours later...still going at it. But mostly with ad hominem of me and how I’m a “daft fool”.

I never resulted to adhominems, I remained civil, and defended my argument. But they refused to re-read what I was explaining...

These are grown-ups and not some 17 year-old kid trolling people... it was mind boggling.

Well.....now we know where powerplay ended up...

It's kinda funny from a third party perspective. People are so hell bent on being "right" that they'll literally say anything.

But I guess from their perspective, suicide is a topic that many folks have an irrational hair trigger for.

Yeah I get it. My maternal grandpa died by suicide. My 2nd companion died by suicide. Two coworkers committed suicide. I think everyone here knows someone who has been affected it.

My point was the gotcha headline of saying LDS leaders were “mocking” it, when that simply was not the case.

And your meme of “someone is wrong” is very true though!
