As someone who has done a fair amount of caving and is also a certified rescue diver I can only imagine to complexity of trying to rescue the 12 boys trapped in the Thai cave. If they don't kill someone by the time this is all said and done I'll be amazed... I wish them luck.

For anyone following this Wikipedia has by far the best and most accurate account of what's actually going on, probably because it's constantly being updated and corrected by people that actually understand what they are talking about and not your typical desk jockey journalist.... only downside is you have to keep re-reading the page to see the additions and corrections. As an engineer, diver and occasional caver I find this rather fascinating.

I was stunned when they found all of them alive. I don't have your expertise but still find this fascinating and am praying for the best for these boys. I Read an article today about the coach and how he use to be a monk and this is a positive because of his calm influence on the boys and meditation skills. This article also mentioned how close they are because of the varios adventure activities they do together.

I hate to say I called it, but I knew with the complexity of this rescue it was only a matter of time before they killed someone...

Dang I wonder if they are keeping his death a secret from the boys.I'll guess they are keeping it secert as the boys already have enough on their plate.

This death should show how dangerous this really is when one of the most highly trained individuals in the world (Thai navy SEAL) dies. And now they want to bring out untrained divers who don't know how to swim. Don't be surprised when more lives are lost.

Sadly I agree with you. This story is not going to end well...the boys might make it out. But I don't see it happening without more tragedy.

Options are have boys swim out = someone dying they lack experience.
Pumping enough water out they can walk/swim/fight a current= long shot
Wait it out=they still need supplies and that means more under water diving in a cave! And October is a long ways off to be under ground that long in a dark damp place.
Possible back door = fairy-tale ending

I can't imagine being one of those parents.

Tough situation for sure. I'm pretty sure they will not be just leaving them there though without trying.

So the diver that died was taking oxygen to the boys because that chamber the oxygen level has fallen to 15%....

I thought he was setting up oxygen, in stages, in order to eventually get them out. Not taking it in directly to them to keep them alive until they figure out how to get them out.

Optimal range for oxygen is 19.5-23.5%. I wonder what the CO2 levels are in that cave.

An air supply line was installed into the chamber today.

Read another article they have an air supply line.

So are they going to successfully divert enough water to get them out sooner than October...or provide enough supplies until the water subsides?

And if they stay will they be able to maintain health enough to make it to October?

Four boys emerge from Thailand cave as perilous rescue effort continues

Thai navy SEALs announced the extractions but did not reveal the condition of the boys.*Plans called for the 12 players and their coach*to be placed in ambulances and given medical assessments. They will be shuttled to*helicopters that will take them to a hospital.

The mission has now been paused for at least 10 hours as air tanks need to be replaced.

Good thing they are not Americans...

——

The toughest section is about halfway out at a section named "T-Junction", which is so tight the divers have to take off their air tanks to get through.

Shit...if they were Americans, they'd already be out.

I can guarantee you that when I was that age, I would have been like "Oh yeah, hook me up with a tank!"

So I can't help but wonder about the part that need climbing gear...they likely came down it? Anyway, I'd love to hear details about the day they went in and what it was like being pushed all the way down there. Must have been panic, eh?

X2. When you look at the map, and just wonder about everything that took place for the boys side, there is going to be a lot of details emerging...

I sense a documentary (or movie) in the making.

The most dangerous part of the journey out of the labyrinthine cave system is the first kilometer, during which they are required to squeeze through a narrow flooded channel.

Rescuers need to hold the boys' oxygen tanks in front of them and swim pencil-like through submerged holes. Having completed this section, the boys are then handed over to separate, specialist rescue teams, who help assist them through the remainder of the cave, much of which they can wade through.

Another four boys were rescued Monday. Four boys and their coach remain in the cave, but it's unclear if authorities will try to extract them in a group of four or try to take the five out in a single mission.

I'm not sure if this article is true or not.....but it does shed a different light on how this rescue came about. https://www.perthnow.com.au/news/world/thai-cave-rescue-how-the-cave-nightmare-began-ng-b88889337z.amp?utm_campaign=share-icons&utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=social&tid=1531211487440&__twitter_impression=trueIt sheds light on why the kids got stuck in the first place. Maybe I missed it other articles I read, in this one it states the boys went in on their own. Hence the poor choice to enter a cave in the rainy season. And the coach became stuck with them because he went looking for the boys. If this article is true he is a hero. It makes more sense than a coach who is 25 leading the boys into a dangerous situation.

Again I may have missed that skimming other articles but I was under the impression the team went in with the coach.

I heard that they went in together, then it started raining and the incoming water pushed them further down. I reckon we'll find out.

After seeing the news reports early on in this story, I have to agree that I pretty much thought the same thing. What a wonderful and miraculous ending to this saga!:2thumbs:

Watching 20/20 Triumph in Thialand.

The 25 year old did take the kids into the cave. It was the head coach who went looking for them and discovered they went onto the cave.

And yes respect to Saman Human. Respect to all SAR.
