Alcove Amble 04/22/2018
Just a few miles up stream of the Dirty Devil river, from where the river empties into Lake Powell in the Glen Canyon recreation area, lies a really cool and scenic tributary.
Thanks to road Trip Ryan for providng the beta for this canyon called Alcove Amble.
Technicaly wise it is a pretty straighforward canyon, we fiddlesticked one drop, meat anchored two drops and rappeled off a pinched piece of webbing on another. There isn't a dull section in this canyon, it has character. The previous day's rain really made this canyon amble especially nice. Most everything was in spring bloom
The canyon ends just before a very dramatic drop off with a view of the Dirty Devil river some 200 plus feet below the edge. Fantastic views in all directions! The climbout just before the big drop off is a fun 4th class scramble out the canyon. This whole canyon is surrounded by big and amazing views.
It does take a high clearance 4x4 vehicle and dodging some very slow walking, road hogging cows to get out to the trailhead. But it is plenty worth the effort.
Thanks to my canyoneering partners Jessica, Alijeh, Jeremy, and Mike for a great time and amazing photographs.
