I know a few of us take our boys and girls mountain biking. Here's a thread to share your photos, videos, and even stories.
My 11 year old is finally getting big enough to ride my old Klein Mantra. We've been riding the Bonneville Shoreline Trail in Ogden and occasionally along the river bottoms in Riverdale. Once in a while we bring the dog too.
Here are some clips from last week. He took a spill but it wasn't bad at all. A lesson on switchbacks. Oh and he's climbing much better than I am too, which isn't saying much. I'm trying to ride with him every week, we'll see if I can keep that commitment.

I'm so jealous of you with kids who like to ride with you. I could never get my kids to go with me when they were younger. Now they are all grown and gone. My daughter (and athlete of the family) has told me she wants to get into mt. biking once she's done with med school and rotations next fall. I'm hopeful!

Took the 6 year old to Moab a few weeks back. Day 1 was some practice laps on Rusty Spur and day 2 he did the EZ/Lazy loop.

I took my boy and pup to the Riverdale trail along the river bottoms there. This is a great trail and terrain for kids. Just a word of advice, there are vagabonds that occasionally camp out down there since it's very close to where the trains stop.

Sooooooo, in a bout of frustration with my 6 year old's crappily geared hand-me-down bike, I accidentally sold it and splurged and bought this:
https://i.imgur.com/359Hx2m.jpg
What a world of difference. I don't have an on-trail picture just yet, but he loves this thing!! The gearing is low. The brakes are good. The big 2.8 tires at ~8 psi seem to give him tons of confidence when it gets bumpier.
https://i.imgur.com/OEWgDcx.jpg
IT certainly was a bit of an impulsive splurge, but I"ll have two boys that will be able to use it. Plus he'll be able to ride so much more with me and my 10 year old. I may be way more excited for this than he is.

^^^Nice Bike^^^
The above post reminds me of a great story....
One of the kids on the Corner Canyon HS MTB team was always begging his dad for a new bike. The kid always finished just outside the top 10 and swore up and down it was the bike holding him back. The dad always replied "It's not the arrow, it's the indian".
Fast forward to mid season and one of the rider leaders lends the kid his multi- million dollar cross-country bike for the next race. The dad is still walking around saying "It's not the arrow, it's the indian". but this time the dad makes a critical mistake, he tell's the kid if he wins he'll buy him any bike he wants. The kid proceeds to lead the race from start to finish and the dad ended up blowing the dust off his wallet and shelling out a big chunk of change to buy the kid a top of the line new bike.
The moral of the story is, "it's always great to have the best arrows". :lol8:

Especially on kids bikes. The majority of the bikes made for the 12 and under crowd these days are such piles of shit, that make it almost impossible to get off trail. Modern geometry, decent components and light weight are a game changer for kids on anything other than smooth dirt roads. I have been amazed at the stuff my kid can ride over without much trouble. Then again, we probably all learned on pieces of shit, so maybe I should have saved my money and made him suffer.

Amen to this! The bike I got rid of was even a Specialized HotRock something or other. The brakes sucked, the fork was a heavy terd that didn't even budge under his 48lbs. I actually really like that this Trek didn't come with a suspension fork. They are worthless at that pricepoint.

Yeah, it is tough to get a useful fork at that size. You probably are smarter than me, so won't be interested, but if you ever decide to upgrade the fork, this is the way to go: https://spawncycles.com/brood-eldorado-ss-80-9 My son's bike came with it and it is really like a junior pike. Probably overkill for most, but if he has his sights set on hitting some jumps it's worth it.

BTW, highly recommend Little Valley in Corner Canyon for the beginners. It was actually pretty cool to see beginners of all ages out there! Short, easy, non-intimidating loop options. Very cool place!!!

A few with my boys. My 15 year old is in his second season riding on the Bingham HS Team. He’s getting fast and faster.
I just got my 12 year old a much better bike and it made a world of difference. Now we are working on getting some more muscle on his legs.

[emoji106]Glad to hear your still coaching. I chatted with you for a split second in STG at the Championship race 4 years ago. Our team raced with Utah the first year we formed the team.
I wanted to continue to help but I can't because of work. Work was gracious to give me the time I needed to coach for the last 4 years until Sarah graduated. As you know it is huge commitment.
I do miss riding with my crew. They are the best.

The only time all three regions race together anymore is at state. We have half a dozen teams now with 100 plus members. Corner Canyon is still the largest team in the country with 175 riders this year.

And we often mention how big Corner Canyon because we are impressed you can handle that many kids and have had such awesome participation.
IFC is still a composite team with 7 high schools. Slowly growing, last year we had 40 I expect they will have 60 or more this year. Biggest growth is with the middle schools.

I brought Porter along on the Ogden Canyon Overlook trail at Snowbasin. We waited for others, which was a mistake, because we ended up getting screwed at the end and riding down in the dark. Gotta start on the trail by 5 pm now.
Here's a panorama from the top of the trail.

Porter took a small tumble in the soft grass, just a little bruise on the leg, had to enhance the light because it's pretty dark.

So I have to borrow a kid these days since both mine are grown and on their own and living in different states.
This is my niece and our first mtb ride together. I bought her balance bike for her as soon as my sister told me she was pregnant. I have been patiently waiting until she and I could ride.

She is my favorite riding partner. Drove all the way to Idaho yesterday just to sneak in a ride.
If you are ever up near Kelly Canyon check out the trail they call Space Cruise or Wolverine ~8 miles of really fun downhill. Probably one of my favorite trails.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190614/09e011874a669b6364b336662183e61b.jpg

I am so proud of my Niece! She is 4 1/2. Her dad and I bought her a "racer bike" as she calls it for her 4th birthday that was in November. We gave it to her early and she was pedaling the bike that day. She practiced over the winter making her mom go out in the cold to ride. [emoji23] I rode with her a few times. Her mom even made her an indoor trainer out of PVC pipe because she kept trying to convince her mother to tear out the carpet in the house so she could ride her bike. This kid is tenacious.
She called me Friday and asked if I could ride bike with her social distance style so I met them at the Riverdale bike park. This was her first time on her "racer bike" on dirt. She was struggling at first so I took her down to the sundial which is mostly flat. And had her pedal around that a couple times. Then we came back to the pump track. She was struggling with pedaling faster over the hills so I might have broke the social distance rules a bit to help her get the hang of it. Ssshhh don't tell her dad...he is really freaked out by this virus mess. Anyway I think I ran 2 miles helping her get the hang of it. Best work out I have had in awhile. And worth it.
Later that night when they were listing things they were greatful for Kennedy said she was thankful for riding on the racing dirt. [emoji7][emoji7][emoji7]
I look forward to more rides with Kennedy they are my favorite rides these days.

I love riding with my oldest son, except for the fact that he kicks my butt. This was the first ride on his new bike. He wanted a full suspension to race his senior season and this is a good one!
We did a 24 mile loop with 3,400 of climbing on Friday. My legs are still feeling it as I go up the stairs today.
