I finally got to shoot my new Ruger 10/22 build yesterday. Took a comp day off and went out past 5 Mile Pass to the Toplif area where I found a nice, secluded area. I sighted it in at 75 yards. I love this thing! The most notable upgrade is the Ruger BX trigger. Man that thing has a lite touch! I know there are better triggers out there but, at only $50 on ebay it's hard to beat for a noticeable, cheap upgrade. Of course I just had to shoot my other guns as well. I still say my AR is the funnest gun to shoot I've ever shot. I also walked about 2 miles through the sage brush and junipers, trying to scare up some jack's but, didn't see a thing. Is it a down year for bunnies?

TopLiff are is still off-limits to shooting, so be advised that the BLM and DNR Rangers will cite for that. As it relates to Jack Rabbits, the entire population of rabbits + coyotes in the 5Mile pass to Eureka area has been decimated for years. I haven't seen either in over 5+ years!

Not that I can tell. All the maps I can find have the No Shooting Zone ending quite a bit farther north. Plus I was on either BLM land or open Utah lands (the brown square to the right. When I click on that square it comes up Utah Open Public Land and includes the hunt unit name) I was using On-X maps when I drove out there to make sure I was legal. Do you have another map showing I was in the wrong? I was inside the blue circle.

I don't have another map, just personal experience shooting out there when a DNR ranger arrived and threatened to take my rifle(s) away because that area (per her) was still within the No-Shooting Zone. I was told that I had to cross south of 10 (or is it 12) mile Pass.

Interesting. What's more interesting is I can't find an official no shooting zone map anywhere. In fact, the only one I can find is one on an OHV website and it has the no shooting zone ending way farther north from Topliff. How are we supposed to know if there's not any good, quick and ready information/maps out there?

Here's the only map I can find where the no shooting zone is clearly defined. Topliff itself is out of the zone and I was southeast from there.

Interesting. Just for my own sanity, I'll see if DNR/OHV have anything concrete -- to keep both of us out of trouble! :)
