Trying to start conversations in another thread (wink, wink!). I've taken an older Ruger 10/22 and just recently finished modifying it. Nothing wrong with the stock version. I guess I just like to tinker and I'm happy with the way it turned out. These photos aren't mine but, my build looks pretty much identical, minus the muzzle brake and bipod.

I've mounted a Nikon P-223 4x scope on it. I'm excited to get it out to the range and put some rounds through it!

Always been the most dependable, semi auto, .22 on the market.

Have you got several brands of ammo to try?

I also picked up this Beretta ARX160 .22, gently used, last fall at Gunnies. I've mounted a Holosun red dot on it. I've been able to shoot it quite a bit since. Having been a Ruger 10/22 fan for a very long time, I have to say I've been really impressed with this Beretta. Way fun to shoot and the magazine is easier to load than the 10/22. The Beretta will be my jack-rabbit short range gun and my Ruger build will be for longer range, more accurate shooting.

Yep. Several different brands and lots of it.

Nice looking build!

I have a Ruger 10-22 USA Shooting Team Race Rifle with a 6-24 Sightron scope on it. I find the trigger a bit tough.

Also have a Volquartsen with a 6.5-20 Leupold. I used it for a number of 3-position competitions. Also felt like the trigger was lacking on it as well.

To get my scores back up to where I think they should be...went back to a bolt action.

Probably need to spend some time figuring out the triggers on these...

Speaking of ammo...awhile back, I ordered a number of brands and types and some some time printing them all. There seems to be some difference (not as much at 50 feet with a rifle but...).

Same hole at 50 feet. Gotta have it.

Yeah, that ruger semi auto hit it out of the park. Very rare to get a misfeed.

Good stuff!

The only thing made by Ruger on my 10-22 is the receiver frame. EVERYTHING else is custom. My dad builds custom Ruger 10-22's (and he built mine and my kids) by the hundreds and sells everyone he builds for outrages amounts of money. His rifles were featured in one of the shooting rags 20 years ago and he has had people standing in line to buy his rifles ever since. He only builds them when he's bored because he says he doesn't want another job.

The Ruger BX upgraded trigger has a 2.5 pound pull on it. The stock trigger is around 6 pounds. I here it's a big improvement but haven't shot it yet. The BX is only about $50 on sale. Eventually I'd like to get a Kidd version but, they are way pricey.

Uhh huh. Invalid without pictures...ha ha.

Its an indoor competition which uses "the ubiquitous of all smallbore rifle targets": the NRA 50-foot A-17. The 10 ring is pretty much the diameter of a .22 round.

Prone and seated (kneeling) isn't too bad. Unsupported rifle, no sling, no rest...I find the standing position a challenge. Harder than it looks.

Here's my current high end stable...

Top to bottom:

Anschutz Match 54 w/ Leupold 6.5-20 EFR w/ target dot.
Anschutz 64 MPR w/ Leupold 6.5-20 EFR fine plex.
Volquartsen 10-22 w/ Sightron 6-24.standard duplex.
Ruger USA Shooting Team Race Rifle...naked naked naked.

Moved scopes around when I got the MPR...

In the market for another 6.5-20 EFR...maybe with a bigger target dot...

Hmmm....

Always coveted an STC stock as well...

Let's shoot!

But there are only two of them! They look so lonely without a bunch of friends. I think you should buy a few more to keep those two company.

lots of nice looking guns in this thread.

Steve, do you need a cheek riser on the 10/22?

Scope looks kinda high.

tallsteve

Yeah, it is. The scope mount is for an AR so I need something lower. Any suggestions?

I don't have any suggestions, don't own a 10/22.

o.k.--took me a minute to round up some of the taxidermy.

I'm only posting the 33 biggest eyelashes.

So there could be no argument, I lined them up, by size, on top of the barrel.

Keep in mind--this red ryder had hand loads used.

^^^I have 3 Red Ryders, the earliest is a 1942, which was the 3rd year of production. That BB gun has killed a lot of birds as it was my dad's when he was a kid and was passed to me early in my childhood. It's still in amazing condition.

Not sure what your base is, but, I'd start there. Then get a set of rings to match. BKL, Warne, Leupold, etc.

If were me, based on your stock, I'd probably want the lowest set of rings that would work for the scope and your head position.

Good suggestions if you search around on the rimfirecentral forum.

Wouldn't need to get to fancy/spendy methinks.

Haha! Yeah, not sure I'll buy another .22 rifle as much as I'd like to have more. My next two purchases will be a shotgun (for turkey hunting) and a full-size handgun.

I would also choose the lowest set of rings

The Ruger 10/22 is the world's most popular series of rifles for the rimfire cartridge. I have this rifle in my arsenal. The most popular modification of the 10/22 is the stock.

Reminds me I need to add a scope to my 10/22 (target tactical model with hogue stock), picked up a Nikon P-Rimfire when on sale which need rings to mount, but I think it could benefit from something better, which I'd probably would need to save up for, It's been low priority... The MTB needs more parts, I need to plink more often though.

My father made a small fortune building custom Ruger 10/22's. He built a couple and one of the popular gun magazines at the time wrote an article saying his custom Rugers were the finest on the planet and after that he could ask anything he wanted for his rifles and still couldn't build them fast enough. Guys would show up at his doorstep offering whatever he wanted to build them a 10/22.

I have a 10/22 my dad built for me and the only item Ruger is the receiver frame. That rifle can drive nails at 75 yards.

He also built each of my daughters a 10/22 for their 14th birthday.

He builds lot of other custom rifles. A lot of the guys shooting in 1000 yard competitions are shooting one of my dad's rifles.

I discovered the website rimfirecentral.com back in 2004. I also have a highly modified ruger 10/22 with volquartson parts, aluminum customed colored fluted and ported whistle pig barrel, and a baracuda stock.
