Is it going to happen?

The only thing our legislature is doing is trying to pin the problem on the other party.

Normally Democrats benefit from a shutdown, but I think this time it will come around and bite Democrats in the ass.

Democrats are still using the Clinton playbook and running the Wing T. Trump brought the Spread Option to the Republicans.

Whenever there is a shutdown congress/senators shouldn't get paid.

When I worked for the state and there were shutdowns, we didn't get paid. When I work for the private industry and there is a shutdown, we (pertaining to most of us) don't get paid.

Why should congress/senators be any different?

How is it that you didn't get paid when you worked for the State? Were you employed by the State gov't or the Federal gov't but working in a State office?

With just about as many Democrats (3) voting for as Republicans against (4 including Utah's own Mike Lee) you can't lay this on Schumer.

This is a failure of all sides. You'd think with control of all three branches of bill-making-government, that at least one party would be clearly to blame...

Would have nearly passed with full Republican support in the Senate. Got to be something smelling pretty bad if Rand Paul and Lindsey Graham wouldn't vote for it. Flake too (although he's been an outspoken and not running again critic).

Wonder what Lee's beef with it was...?

Term limits are starting to smell better...ha ha.

There were occasional government shutdowns for political reasons, weather, etc. and we never got paid for them.

Were you employed by the State gov't

State of Colorado.

But its coming soon.....

It appears you funked out of junior high school civics so let me help you out...

The Republicans do not "control" the Senate, they have a slight majority with 51 Republicans compared to 49 Democrats. It would take 60 Republicans to "control" the Senate as it takes 60 votes to pass a budget.

Stupid politicians. I feel bad for my govt. worker friends who will not be paid during this shutdown. I've received private messages from several of my US Forest Service friends who I work with as a volunteer. They are worried and frustrated. Most of them are mid to low level employees with young families. They have asked me to keep an eye on some specific things up AF canyon because they've been told to stay away. I also have a close cousin who works as a private contractor for the Air Force in Okinawa. The entire base is shut down. He will also not be receiving a paycheck. This hurts a lot of good and decent common working folk who are just trying to provide for their families.

Democrats overwhelmingly agree to the exact same deal they rejected Friday.

This was all about stopping Trump from taking a victory lap on his one year anniversary as President.

Quite a different method than what was employed during the last obama shutdown.

http://insider.foxnews.com/2018/01/21/secretary-zinke-cleans-trash-offers-tours-national-mall-during-government-shutdown

zero tried to ban us all from "our" parks, Utah stepped up big time, then.

Best description I heard was Obama tried to weaponize the last shutdown, which actually worked because Republicans took the heat for it. This shutdown was going to hammer the Democrats so they decide to stop shoveling before their hole got any deeper.

The biggest problem I see now is that Democrats really don't want to fix DACA before the mid-terms. If DACA is fixed now the best the Democrats can hope for is to the share the victory with the Republicans.

Ahhh, cmon, go get out of the house and buy yourself something nice with your extra Trump money....

Hopefully it offsets your losses over the last years paying sky high insurance premiums and deductables...

Haven't noticed any extra money (yet)...we'll see. Couple more weeks? Be interesting to see if there's a bump.

No losses per se on insurance. I'm covered at work. Still, the company takes out money for my insurance, and, its not as low as most of us think it should be. We've been losing ground for years.

Fortunately, given that I get a yearly check up, I get paid enough between that and what the company plunks into my HSA, that, its a wash and balances out to nearly zero. Still, its a benefit for working for "the man". Glad I don't have to go out onto the open market.

No health issues last year...so...no deductible. Knock on wood!

Anyhow...had a "town hall" type meeting with the top management of the company a week ago or so. Someone asked question along the lines of "what's the company going to do with all that extra money from the tax cut". Interesting response. CFO said it was a net wash. No savings. More than likely higher taxes on certain items but they were still figuring it all out. Hmmm.

Looks like the budget ball got kicked down the beach...

So let's see if I have this all figured out... Democrats managed to accede to Republican demands, demoralize their energized base, give the president another win, and look like they held a meaningless three day government shutdown - all at once.

There's blame to go around...but...I might actually agree with most of the above.

Good thing it was only the weekend-ish. Shouldn't be too much of a lodestone in the mid terms, but....we'll see what happens with walls, immigration and DACA.

Plus, we get to go through it all again if they don't get their poop in a scoop.

They just kicked the ball down the beach. Approved temporary funding until 8 Feb.

So, unless congress pulls its head out, we'll be right back in this in a couple of weeks.

For the fans here of the fake news "Clinton News Network" (CNN), even they had polls that showed the Democrats were to blame over the president and the Republicans.

Although "Trumpshutdown" trended way higher than "Schumershutdown" on social media...

So the preferred liberal version is trending higher on the extremely liberal social media sites..... what a huge surprise!

This has been a huge bitch of conservatives for year. All the major social media site are extremely liberal and there algorithm's favor liberal topics and ideas. Several of the social media sites, most notably Facebook, have come out and admitted as much and promised to try and be more fair in the future.

But for some reason it's OK when we do it.

McConnell made a great move when he promised DACA would be moved to the front of the queue "provided the government was funded". If Democrats attempt to hold 300 million hostage as they did in the recent shutdown they will just be picking up their shovels and renew digging the same hole that didn't work for them last time. I'm sure there will be more twists and turns, but it would be crazy stupid for the Democrats to try the same tactic in two weeks that just failed miserably.
