Here's mine. The only surprise for me is the 25% "Ireland, Scotland, Wales". I look more like your typical Scandinavian genetics, which I knew. In researching the Irish/Scottish side, looks like my 15th, 16th and 17th (I think?) great-grandfathers were the kings of Scotland. Stewart clan. My 16th great grandfather was the last European king to have been killed in battle even. After he was killed the people finally wised up and figured out it was really stupid to send the king into battle at all.

My daughter-in-law was born in Haiti. Fortunately, when she was 10 years old, her mother was able to take her and a sister to another Caribbean island, Guadeloupe, where she was able to create a better life for them. Haiti is so corrupt. For example, my daughter-in-laws father is a cop there but, he also has a side job- hitman. True story. My daughter-in-law is proud of the country she's from but, she also realizes what a terrible place it is.

You know, somewhere in Europe, social media posts are going around about School Teachers here in the U.S., how they get great healthcare and get the summer months off, and how Europe's employers should be more like the United States. And here, we're spreading the same crap about some odd job over in Norway that gets a few months off in the summer and we're all thinking that America should follow Europe's job model.

Starting pay for Utah teachers is approximately $40k depending on district, most make more, they get every pothole in the calendar off, they get good healthcare at a ridiculously low rates (1/10th what I pay for better insurance), paid personal days, their higher/continuing education is paid for, and best of all they get all that for working 9 months of the year. That's more than crumbs in many people's book....

The results are indeed that simple.
What transpires in the form of government and that governments restraints, or interactions, on capitalism, indeed are not simple.(less government=more capitalism)
Having a constitutional Republic, works hand in hand with capitalism.
Socialism is the antithesis of capitalism as shown in the meme.

San Francisco has more drug addicts than it has students enrolled in its public high schools, the city Health Department’s latest estimates conclude.
There are about 24,500 injection drug users in San Francisco — that’s about 8,500 more people than the nearly 16,000 students enrolled in San Francisco Unified School District’s 15 high schools and illustrates the scope of the problem on the city’s streets…

ALBANY — Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo on Monday announced a dramatic drop in state income tax revenue of $2.8 billion, which he says will prompt him to revise his 2019-20 budget and reconsider spending on schools, health care and repairs to roads and bridges.
Cuomo, a Democrat, blamed the shortfall on a federal tax plan backed by Republican President Donald Trump. Cuomo said the law's cap on deductions for state and local taxes at $10,000 was to blame and suggested it is, anecdotally, triggering high-earners to leave New York.
“At this point there is no doubt that the budget we put forward is not supported by the revenues,” Cuomo said at a State Capitol news conference. “It’s as serious as a heart attack.”

Forget Frisco...I’m in Hilo, Hawaii right now and the homeless are so thick you have to virtually step over them. The “touristy area” smells like piss.
My last time here was 4 years ago and it’s shockingly worse. After this storm blows thru I’ll get my ass back to the Kona side where the rich folks are.

Don't forget paid sick days that roll over every year (as long as you stay in the same district). A few of my coworkers have accumulated months of paid sick leave simply by staying in the same district every year.
If you decide to go the administrator route you'll start pulling $91k a year. Obviously there's a lot of extra duties and crap that goes along with that extra 50k. But still, that's on par with what a doctor makes without the massive student debt and 10+ years of extra schooling.
AND there are scholarship and loan programs out there (especially in Utah) that will PAY FOR your bachelor's in any subject as long as you teach in a Title 1 (low-performing) school for three or so years. On top of that, at those Title 1 schools there are extra incentives to teachers to show student growth that can result in a $2k bonus. There are extra bonus scholarships if you're going into a STEM subject and/or you're a woman going into STEM.
My only issue with teaching is the fact that they try to cram 40 kids (my biggest class, but not by much) into a room that has room for 32 desks. Trying to get 40 sixth graders in the last period of the day to do anything is like herding cats.

40 kids??? Holy shit. How can any kid get any 1 on 1 time like that? Though it could be worst I guess. I was in Cambodia a while back and we went to a school that probably had 70 kids per class, and the kids were probably ranging from 6-10 years old. Though they also all played in a giant trash heap that was out the back of the school.

It's tough, but technology is helping out a lot. It depends on the School DIstrict but a lot of them now have 1 to 1 devices like the Chromebook laptop and iPads, one for each student. It's getting easier for the teacher to hurry and shoot a message to individual devices and get an idea of how each student is doing.
Students can answer questions in the classroom in new ways that avoid any public humiliation. Quick surveys can be asked the class to get an idea if everybody is up to speed with the current topic.
There are a lot of awesome advances with technology, but often it will be hindered by "old school pen and paper" style teachers that insist on the old methods, and the students with these teachers can suffer the consequences. You can't just fire a teacher because they haven't learned how to make a PowerPoint yet after 20 years. Anyways, I could go on and on, but some great things are available to students now, if the teacher is on board.

I don't know how I would manage to teach and assess any sort of reading or writing skills without technology, especially Canvas and Google Classroom. I make their worksheet, embed videos, articles, and various skill checks with hyperlinks in the assignment and away they go. These programs also allow me to watch them work and I can immediately stop a kid and provide direction when they're messing up.
It also has cut down on kids telling their parents I lost their assignments. I can point to the class page at the big NO SUBMISSIONS FOUND and tell them their kid is a liar. It's also good to have that copy of the assignment that I can show a parent when they ask why their kid scored low. All at the click of a button.
If anyone is curious below I've linked an example of an assignment I did with seventh graders. They were learning about counterclaims and how to defend their own claims.

Chicago sees its deadliest day in 60 years with 18 murders in 24 hours: report
https://www.foxnews.com/us/chicago-saw-its-deadliest-day-in-60-years-with-18-murders-in-24-hours-reportWhen people ask me, "Byron, why are you a conservative?" I say "The question is, why am I not a liberal?"
This is why. They talk the talk, but don't walk the walk. They tell you "Don't eat that" while they're swallowing a mouthful of it themselves.
They insist that we should all stand together for "justice"...yet I can't join these hyperemotional people screaming at the top of their lungs with their fists in the air when they straight up fail to acknowledge reality.

Yeah. Let’s turn our parks into homeless tent cities.
When they feed you the line about how they need to take taxes to build and maintain parks because they help the local communities and are essential for good mental health...

What a crock of shite. Now all of the taxpayers whose taxes go to pay for maintenance and upkeep of the parks can go wade through human excrement and used needles.

$140,000,000 is spent on homeless here in Denver every year. This has been going on for decades yet it's so bad they had a ballot measure last year that would let them camp anywhere they want...as long as they didn't block pedestrian access. Any public place.
Voters rejected it overwhelmingly, but it did get 3 out of 10 people voting for it. Close to downtown they do it anyway...out here in the "suburbs" they tent up in vacant lots and in the bushes. They like McDonals and near liquor stores. And pot shops, too.
I've listened to a lot of stuff about this on the radio, especially. People that work in the business of homelessness and even the "King of Caring" himself, the Mayor. These people avoid shelters because they can't bring their booze or drugs in with them. They sure as hell don't want to work, because jobs are offered and they won't take them.

You know those city officials all have big money, and big houses, and big yards. Before they start letting people live in the public parks and roads and empty lots, if they really were compassionate and cared for these people, they’d let them set up camp and live in their own yards. They can come in the house for restroom, shower, eat. ... But they do do that. Why? Because they don’t care one bit about them. Total hypocrites.

https://www.facebook.com/154578578052546/posts/1627351617441894/?d=nIn 1972 my mom started dating a guy that would take us to a beach near Ensenada, Mexico...south of Tijuana. After driving thru town, there was miles and miles of people living in lean-tos, cardboard boxes and various decrepit structures. I was only 9 years old, but it was shocking. I remember thinking "There's people that are more poor than us"...as we lived at the time in a really run down apartment in Oxnard, CA.
I drove thru downtown Denver about 10 days ago and it looks like Tijuana gone bad. People have tents anywhere they want with "BLM" type signs all over them to ward off the cops. For the last week I've been thinking that my plan for keeping my condo here and maintaining my rentals for income as time goes by may have to be altered. I'll have a nice little cash out if I sell everything and book out of here but that was Plan B, not Plan A.
Speaking of shitholes...I just returned from a little trip to Utah. I spent a few days at Calf Creek and another few at Moab.
Calf Creek was both pleasurable and a disappointment...pleasurable with the fishing, cold water and hiking in the area, but disappointing with the trashed condition of the campground, trail and hang out spot at the falls.
There's no campground host and appears there hasn't been one for a while. It's a free for all. I've been there dozens of times in the last 30 years and I've never seen it so nasty. There is trash, diapers, dog dookie bags, toilet paper and shit all over the place. Some people look like they've been camping there for quite a while. People are dragging anything that will burn out of the bushes. The pay box was damn near overflowing when I got there so when I paid for my campsite I put $45 bucks in an envelope and had to use a stick to shove it down in there...somebody came by the next morning and used some kind of tool to fish a bunch of them out of the box. I should have just camped for free but didn't realize the lay of the land until I had been there a day. What a rip.
The worst part about it?...when no one is minding the store so many people will just toss proper behavior right out the window. There are no trash cans there...you're supposed to pack it out with you and apparently a bunch of them don't want to drive away from there with the debris they created. One person does it, a bunch of others follow suit. The place was gang banged by hundreds of people every day.
Too bad...it used to be a sweet little oasis out in the middle of nowhere...now it may as well be a few miles outside a big city with no one paying any attention to it.

I cannot echo Agent Smith's words loud enough:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IM1-DQ2Wo_wI remember the fist time I saw this movie...March of 1999 in Moab, of all places.
I was there with my girlfriend at the time along with another couple. It had been raining really hard all day and no one was riding. No one knew anything about this movie (it had just come out) but the little theater was packed...so much so that the four of us had to sit in the front row. Image that...Matrix first time in a theater with it right in your face. Talk about sensory overload!
Poor Katie, my girlfriend. She was a hippie hiker/skier chick that lived in a little cabin high in the mountains with no TV and had no interest in anything like this. After it was over, she looked like she just walked thru a war zone.
I remember this scene...and I thought "Gee, maybe it wouldn't be so bad just to be a battery for the machines after all?" That statement was like a smack in the face...of reality.
Funny thing...back in the 70s people would leave piles of trash everywhere. Just tossing it out the windows of their cars. Then starting about the mid eighties, most started cleaning up their act. I think the "Don't be a litterbug" campaign had an effect.
The 90s were great...cleanliness at campsites and the backcountry was very good...and then it started getting messy again. I've noticed for the last 15 years especially that it's gotten worse. Calf Creek reminded me of 1977.

I honestly think that one of the biggest differences (that's most visible, at least) between a first and a third world country is how clean the place is. I've been to a couple of third world countries in my lifetime, and it's always sad to see some of the most beautiful places just littered with trash all over the place. So much of the world is such a trash hole because people just don't care. It sucks. Just take some pride in your neighborhood. In your city. In your country. Pick up after yourself. It's not that hard.
I see the US headed downhill so fast just because of this. It may not be the biggest problem we have, but it's an indicator of things that are happening under the hood, so to speak. It's an ugly symptom of a serious problem.

You guys that are here frequently know that I paint houses for a living. Interior and Exterior, all by myself. Yes, I am a badass.
Anyway, I can tell you with great authority that MOST people live in absolute filth...I know because when I do interior work I'm the one who has to clean everything up before I paint it. You can't paint over dust, debris, dried food, animal slop and various types of smegma. I have a full array of cleaning tools and products along with my working equipment. I charge by the hour for my work...you're not going to clean it ahead of me? OK, fine...you're gonna pay for it! And I ain't cheap. Move your furniture away from the walls to see what I mean...the beds they sleep in? Oh God! Those Mexican cleaning ladies everyone seems to have don't go deep, that's for sure.
Funny how some are concerned about the cost of things, but won't lift a finger to save possibly a few hundred dollars. Didn't used to be that way...in the late 70s and thru the 80s people would "prepare" for your arrival...now NO ONE does a damn thing. I used to ask people to clean the toilet before I went in to paint the bathroom, but I stopped making that request years ago because so many get offended...which if funny considering they wouldn't even think about that if I didn't mention it.
However, not EVERYONE is a pig. I have plenty of very/super clean clients. They love me because I never leave a mess in my wake. Kinda like detailing cars...

I think this mentality definitely applies to the larger Democratically-run cities. But not everywhere. In smaller conservative towns it's a completely different story. Shanty towns like the ones Byron is describing are almost non-existent in places like Cedar City, St. George, Heber, Brigham City, etc. Not all places are on the decline -- just the Democrat run cities. But who wants to live there anyways? It about brought a tear to my eye when yesterday my wife out of the clear blue sky declared that she didn't ever want to take the family on vacations to California anymore "because they're all crazy." A wry smile crept across my face as I just nodded my head in agreement.
But my wife isn't the only one who is arriving at the conclusion that Democratic strongholds in this country are shitholes that should be avoided. I think there are millions who are arriving at the same conclusion my wife did, and eventually that might spark change. When folks wake up to the reality that their beloved city looks like Tijuana they'll either move or vote for change. But I doubt all people will just blindly settle for it. I definitely won't. My wife definitely won't. And our kids are being brought up to make the same distinction if they haven't already come to that conclusion on their own.

Nah.....all I can do is speak to the reality that I've lived. For the better part of the last decade I've lived my life in rural-town Utah, where the overwhelming majority is conservative Republican. For whatever reason, homeless camps in those places are non-existent.....weird, huh? I'm not sure why but for whatever reason the dirty homeless population doesn't build encampments beside the Shakespeare Festival in Cedar City or along the main street of Moab. Maybe they feel ashamed to throw down a cardboard hovel in those places or maybe the mayor and city council chase that out of town before it has a chance to fester. Maybe both. But having known and lived among rural Utahns for a while has taught me that they will never allow that crap to spring up and pollute their town. It's highly likely that as I near retirement I'll look to emulate oldno7 and move back to rural Utah, where the streets are clean, all lives matter, and the only thing you have to worry about is how to keep those pesky deer from eating your tomatoes.

And this is why I haven't left Brigham City. There was a time when I craved a little more excitement and "stuff to do" in my life. This is really simple... Shitholes exist where they are tolerated.
This will probably be a big turd in the Bogley punch bowl, but I've expressed this opinion before... The LDS Church has headed down the left track in an effort to increase membership, which is why the bullshit going on in SLC is tolerated. Not to mention riots and shootings in Provo, the heart of Mormon doctrine. Anyone who has lived their entire life in Utah knows a couple simple comments from the church and this disappears.
The Mormon Church has always been a dichotomy in that it is/was a conservative socialist organization.

^I can't really disagree with that. The way they have handled all this pandemic stuff hasn't been my favorite thing if I'm honest. We went to church last Sunday and it was sad, really. The sense of unity and community that I've always associated with it was gone. They only let a few people in at a time, you sit down (away from other people), you have your meeting, which is shortened and all meaning and significance has been removed from most of it, and you leave without any real contact with anyone else.
It sucked, and I can't see how this is going to help the church when it comes to retention of members after all this is over.

The "stuff to do" in the city involves being elbow to elbow with the riff raff. You have to lock everything up and grow eyes in the back of your head...that's the main reason I bailed out of Los Angeles nearly 30 years ago.
Now I'm in the same situation here in Denver, but the problem is that I've established a business here. As long as I live in or very close to this town I never have to worry about money...there are people lined up outside my front door at all times wanting nothing more than to throw $100 bills at me all day long. I swear this phone will be ringing long after I'm dead. I could get it going in another town, but "starting over" doesn't sound too appealing. I'd have to lower my rate initially and although I'd probably grind up a nice little fan base within a couple years...it's kinda like "been there, done that". Besides, I've gotten to the point where I"m a bit picky and choosy about which jobs I take on...I pass on the really hot, hard or nasty stuff. When starting, you kinda have to take on all that comes your way.
I've got plenty of money, but the problem is that I'm going to live into my 90s, at least...so having set everything up so nice and tidy and then having to bail seems contrary to the "smart move". Also, I travel a lot and am doing more and more of it...I'm on the cusp of only being here in town 6-8 months of the year and it would be nice to have easy cash just waiting for me to come back.
What a problem, huh? White privilege on display, boys and girls...a house painter with an 8th grade education. I do envy you guys that live in more rural areas. The grass is always greener, eh?

Also, there aren't any young bucks coming into the supply stores (the owners tell me this)...it's all "old timers" like me and those that do subcontract work...which are mostly guys that lack ambition and a focus on detail.
People have learned over the years that it's better to hire a specialist over a group of monkeys. That sounds harsh, but it's true.

Absolutely. I'm also self employed. I'm a steel detailer. There's not a ton of us around, and we aren't getting younger either. The biggest problem we have here is that there are a lot of Indian, Chinese, and Romanian companies that market heavily to the fabricators here in the US. COVID has been good for American detailers though as all of the foreign guys were shut down and not allowed to go to work, so all of the fabricators had to hustle to find domestic guys that could help them out.
I've been in business for myself for 5 years now and like you, don't have to do much if anything for sales. I've got some good clients that pay me and keep me going. It's great.
The only difference between our jobs is that I can do this from anywhere that has a decent internet connection. So I've got options if I need to get out of here one day.

What a problem, huh? White privilege on display, boys and girls...a house painter with an 8th grade education.
I've used your good example with my teenage boys several times in the past. The lecture goes something like this --
"If you want to do well in life and have a comfortable living with a decent amount of cash in your bank account, you can either: A. Go to college and major in something that will contribute to society , B. Get a degree from a trade school, or C. Work hard and have determination. Do something you like, and do it well. Become the best you can be at it and others will take notice. For example, a friend of mine who's a painter that lives in Colorado. He takes 4-week vacations in Hawaii every year......." They get all starry-eyed and incredulous when I tell them about your experience. :haha:

Wow...must be nice to "detail steel" with a keyboard, eh? Don't have to get your hands too dirty now, do ya?
Maybe the tip of your fingers. Rub the keyboard down with some rubbing alcohol every now and then and your good to go!
I come home so dirty sometimes that I have to scrub the bathtub down one a week, especially during the summer (exteriors)...but sometimes the winter interior work can be just as nasty. I'll leave in the morning with brand new white paints clothes and when I come back it's like "What the hell happened to you today?"
There's no paint on my clothes...all that grime was just moving furniture around! And crawling around on the floor, too.
Flooring man....carpet or hardwood, doesn't matter. That's where the dirt is.

Prior to becoming self-employed (at 28) I worked about a half dozen different jobs at larger/corporate type companies. Every singe person that hired me made a terrible mistake...I took their job.
They were hiring their replacement and didn't even know it. They were probably expecting just another clone to come in and do the bare minimum...instead the higher ups noticed me buzzing around and made the moves.

Yo Rockgremlin... you forgot to mention to your kids how the CO house painter never got married or had kids.... talk about the two largest money drains in any mans :-)
My hot young stripper wife came from the poorest, most uneducated and dysfunctional family you ever meet. Two of her brothers are in state prison and the 3rd is in federal prison. At the last family reunion her male cousins were all comparing gunshot wounds... I'm not shitting you... of the 10 cousins that came they had all been in prison and 8 were sporting gunshot scares... it's insane....
When I met the hot young stripper wife she had left that mess and was managing a 7-11 living on her own and doing well. She moved out when she was 16 because she said she just didn't want to live like that and wanted better. Her big dream was to one day own a house. She is one of the most honest and hardest working individuals I've ever met. She tells me what she has now is well beyond her wildest dreams growing up in the gutter, often homeless.
Hard work and a little intelligence will take you far in the US.

This is insightful and exactly what I see. I've been thinking the last many years, as the millenial culture became clear, the economy will grind to a halt in many areas since they can't do things. We can't have a society of all servers and artists. Someone has to drive trucks, or get dirty, or work in a hot building, etc. Yet they believe a fantasy. Their solution? Import foreigners to do real work while they sip lattes on their laptops and push some keys to make money.

Rock, I'd caution on this. We're seeing a Marxist movement afoot. They will not stop with LGBT lessons and urban-centers-only demolition.
They are going to land and wealth redistribution.
You can't have a movement believing we fundamentally have systemic racism not make that logical (and historically always occuring) next step. After all, how can these 3rd world immigrants and blacks compete with the entrenched white families sitting on the ill gotten gains from the last 200 years?

Yo Rockgremlin... you forgot to mention to your kids how the CO house painter never got married or had kids.... talk about the two largest money drains in any mans :-)
Oh yeah...I should have dropped that little tid bit in! Never wanted children, so all that money went to savings/investments. And although I could have married at least a half dozen times, I never pulled the trigger because I wanted to make sure we were going to be compatible before signing the BIG contract. Relationships fail for many reasons...getting married after only knowing someone for less than two years is really risky. Works for some...they grind thru the "surprises", but fails miserably for so many others...50% they say? Kudos to you guys that pulled it off...all of mine hit the skids within two years...but there was one exception, but I found out after 8 years that she couldn't manage money...at all.
Never had a girlfriend that made more money than me. I'm shocked (and kinda saddened, actually) when I meet couples where she makes big bucks and he's kinda like a lazy, low budget kid. It's a weird world sometimes.
Unless I married a gal that made an income at least "comparable" to mine, having kids would have made a HUGE dent in my financial progress, no doubt. I've been making good money for decades now, but not that damn good.
This may sound bad, but I've never had definitive criteria for gals that I'll date. Beautiful women come in all shapes and sizes...but about 10 years ago I decided that I'm not going to date any women that are broke...those days are over. She's gotta be able to bring something to the table, not empty pockets or a pile of debt. Unfortunately, women with money aren't interested in dating a "lowly" house painter (little do they know!) and it's kind of a bummer because there are several gals that are interested in me, they give me little valentines and pour on the "make the move Byron" attitude but I won't pull the trigger because they're working low paying jobs and are just getting by.
Women operate in a certain way when it comes to signaling a man of their interest...really heavy right off the bat...and if you don't take the bait they'll back right off but leave that bobber out there in case you come around. You can't leave them hanging too long though, or they'll give up altogether.

Yeah I don’t do the shop work. I just do the drawings so they know what to build.I actually envy you guys. Although hard, physical labor will keep you in great shape (running up and down ladders all day lifting weights will do the trick) sometimes I long to have been able to use my smarts more effectively.
I probably could have been so much more than I am if I was "educated"...not that I feel it's been wasted...it's just that "What could have been" feeling you get sometimes when you're waiting in line at the grocery store after slaving all day in the sun looking like you got hit by a dirt bomb.

Coming from the perspective of someone who spent almost 50 years in a job that was mostly mental but required a relatively high level of physical labor, Unless you are lucky your ability to do physical things will run out before those that require mostly mental. It seems that people who work physically demanding jobs need to plan for a less strenuous exit from everyday life.
It's true that anyone can be successful but you have to have some smarts to go along with hard work.

It's true that anyone can be successful but you have to have some smarts to go along with hard work. You just nailed it.
I'm 57 years old, and although I'm in great shape, there's a few aches and pains here and there. It does, and will, take its toll.
I go to the grocery store and see all these men that appear to be in their mid 60s and older that are hunched over or walking like something is broke, jacked or screwed up. I DO NOT want to end up that way...so I've backed off the really hard stuff as much as I can. Quite frankly, I'm considering that by the time I hit 60, I'll only paint SUPER easy stuff...entry doors, interior regular sized rooms, etc...stuff that you'd have a 15 year old helper do. No more big, tall rooms, big ladder moves, complete exteriors, garages (they look great when painted, but man is that hard, filthy work), no more work in the sun, period.
You gotta time it just right. I could actually pull it off right now...but any given year I work for repeat customers, most of whom look upon me as a trusted hero. Telling them "no" is hard to do!
That's the rub...no one likes to hear the word "no" or "you have to hire someone else to do that". They'll whine, cry, plead, beg and when you've built a business by being a "yes" man for so many years it's hard to change gears.
But you're right middlefork...badass or not, no one is a Superman.

Ugh...California....what an utter shithole. You know locals have gotta be asking themselves why they still live there.
The tragedy is that California is not inherently a bad place -- it has just gotten that way because of the piss-poor leadership. The Democrat policies have changed many parts of California into damn near a third world.
That cannot continue indefinitely. Sooner or later the locals are going to get sick of dodging vagrants and drug paraphernalia in their front yard and either move or vote the leadership out. The push to move out of California may have already started -- 2019 was the first time since the 2010 census that California has had more people leaving than moving in.

Sooner or later there won't be anyone with half a brain to vote them out. Remember Schwarzenegger? He was supposed to be this conservative stalwart that was going to bring it back to sanity and he ran right smack into the liberal legislature and the unions and they humbled his ass. He was basically powerless...they used his "willing to compromise" against him and put him on a leash.
I think California will become essentially a two class society...the wealthy elite and the pond scum. The only middle class that will remain will be farmers who are subsidized one way or another to keep them from bailing out. The bigger cities will become intolerable unless you live in a gated community. Heck...I left there nearly 30 years ago because it was already getting sketchy...and I lived in a nice neighborhood.
I'll never forget going thru Tijuana in 1972...I was only a kid, but I thought "How could it have gotten this bad?".

I lived out there then, and I guess you did, too. Was a great time. We recalled the Dem gov and installed Arnold. I thought we had a real chance to save the state. Riding a celebrity populist reformist movement.
The key stopper wasn't even the legislature. He went around them and got 3 petitions on the ballot. They would have transformed CA government. Of course then the unions and Dem party and media went to work and destroyed the momentum. All 3 were trounced.
From then on Arnold moved left. He heard and understood his conservative, genuine govt reformist take wasn't going anywhere. That's when I knew the state was doomed.

This is the very definition of a third world country. One without a middle class. From the looks of it, they're well on their way. They've already got all of the trash in the streets to go along with it.

At least she’ll help balance the budget by only getting 73% salary as the current guy.

Which is it? Does San Francisco have a really bad drug overdose problem? Or, are they just really good at preventing China Virus deaths?

There's a reason for this.
Back in 2014, California overwhelmingly passed Prop 47, which makes certain felonies misdemeanors. Certain thefts and robberies (under $950 in value) wouldn't even warrant a call to the police. Basically, shoplifting is sorta, kinda legal because the law isn't going to lift a finger to stop it. So for the last 8 years California has been breeding a culture where smash and grab theft and shoplifting is not stopped and not prosecuted. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2014_California_Proposition_47
If you're a thug living in Kommiefornia life is good -- not so much if you're a business owner.
I can't say I feel sorry for Nieman Marcus, but at the same time it's sad to see the shameful demise of a once great state. The liberals have procured a culture that rewards crime. And if you oppose that culture then you're not "woke" and you're somehow racist. Let's not mention the fact that every one of those thugs running out of Nieman Marcus was colored....just sayin'.

If you get a chance, I highly recommend listening to last Tuesday's Joe Rogan's podcast with guest Yeonmi Park, a native North Korean who escaped to freedom. The things she related about what takes place under the rule of Kim Yong-Un is despicable and sickening. I couldn't believe my ears.

California hole...Instead I moved to Jupiter, a great city in Florida. Top-rated mover I found here (https://localnlongdistancemovers.com/jupiter/) helped me a lot with my relocation. No complaints so far!
Left it like Ben Shapiro did in 2020.
