This is my favorite site by far, the hike, the location, the feeling of calm and 'not being alone', and the number of pictographs all add up to a must see site.

Woah, that is neat! Green ‘paint’ though - any thoughts on that? I’ve seen a lot of red in pictos, but not green before...interesting!

Woah was the term used when we first visited the site. I had never seen green paint at any other location either, the inhabitants must have located a local resource or traded for the right pigments.
The colors, red, green, blue, yellow, black, white ect. of the pictographs is what really make this place stand out.
This site requires a long visit, as the sun changes position many more pictographs are reveled.

Grand Gulch has several green pictographs. One of the ruins is even painted green:

There is also the Green Mask in Sheikhs Canyon, a side canyon of Grand Gulch:

I'm not sure, but maybe there is copper in the green paint?

I've been to Cedar Mesa a few time but I am always working and on a tight schedule, I spend most of my limited spare time on Comb Ridge and Butler Wash. One of these days........

I can not claim any knowledge of the chemical composition of natural paint pigment materials but copper does seem a likely source.
