I plan on doing Yankee Doodle this weekend (temp ~mid 80s-90s) with kids 9 yr old. Should I even bother bringing wet suits for kids? adults?

I've done this canyon a few years back at this time of the year and it was bone dry.

Thx

If it's one or two kids, I would say scratch the wetsuit.

But if you are bringing a dozen or so, it wouldn't be a bad idea to bring one for the leader. At least a shortie perhaps as he/she is in the water assisting.

But expect crowds though! (One of the busiest weekends for Utah in the outdoors).

I went down last month and was hot in my wetsuit. I have two nine year olds and I would bring suits for them. Its not a long canyon and I think it just ensures that they will have a good time.

Thx guys. two kids only...I'll have the wetsuits handy, and make a real time decision when getting there :)

Ended up taking wet suits for the kids only, but never used them

I assume because the water levels were low; or was it due to outside temps being hot?

How were the gnats?

fairly low level of waters (mainly waist/knee depth). Ended up lifting them when they didn't want to get into water. For the adults, being cold was not an issue at all (temp that day was mid/upper 80s).

As for the gnats...hmmm...we did 3 canyons that weekend (Yankee Doodle, Lamb Knoll, and Keyhole) and all I can tell you is that they really love my calves, and I noticed it only on the last day. As for Springdale...they were VERY annoying during the afternoon when hanging around the pool despite wearing long sleeves.
