My son is in an Outdoor Leadership program at Snow College and on a recent hike in Ephraim Canyon they came across this structure. The professor didn't know what it was so I thought we would see if anyone here might know. Exact location could be provided if wanted.

Is that a Salt Lick in the bottom? If so I assume it holds the salt lick cubes.

That is the most logical solution I have heard. That is not a salt lick in the bottom, about a foot off the ground, it is wood platform. There is some interesting history about the Skyline Drive area and how at one point around 1890 there was an estimated 500K sheep on the mountain. They had no clue what overgrazing meant. That is why the Great Basin Station was built, so they could study the area. Thanks for the suggestion.
