Washington is looking really, really good this year. Scary good.

Colorado looks like they could finally end the season over 0.500 this year. They look vastly improved over previous years.

I think this is gonna be a rebuilding year for Utah....maybe 9-4 or 8-5.

Like I said...Washington is scary good. They're currently demolishing Stanford. The Cardinal has no answer. They look lost out there running around trying in vain to convert on fourth down, and turning over the ball. The Huskies will be flirting with the top five after tonight. Geez, it's not even halftime and Washington is up 23 - 0.

I think the Trojans will give Washington all they can handle, but the Huskies should prevail. They'll be playing in Seattle, so if you're counting on USC to go onto the field of the #4 team in the country and beat them at their home you're making a pretty dangerous wager.

Soooo...how much longer until Helfrich gets the inevitable axe?

Ducks are 3-7, about to be 3-8. Oregon fans don't take kindly to losing seasons, and it's doubtful the athletic director has faith that Helfrich is capable of competing for a championship anymore. Pretty good article about it here:

Geez, the Ducks are a shambles. Between all of the infighting, players getting into trouble with the law, drug abuse, players leaving the team to pursue other interests, and the coach on the hotseat, they're a certifiable mess.

To add insult to injury, recently the highest recruited kid to come out of Oregon's graduating high school class (Elijah Molden) just committed to Washington. That's tantamount to heresy in Duckland.

Utah's gonna drop an asskicking on the Ducks that might be as ugly as last year's Pac12 opener in Eugene.

Penn State was the big loser in the bowl selection. They win the Big 10, beat Ohio State already this year, and yet OS gets selected ahead of them. Oregon's Taggart takes blame for hospitalized players, strength coach suspended

A day after it was announced that three Oregon football players had been hospitalized following a series of strength and conditioning workouts, head coach Willie Taggart is absorbing responsibility.

Offensive linemen Doug Brenner and Sam Poutasi along with tight end Cam McCormick were admitted to hospital following team workouts that were said to be gruelling in nature, and remained in fair condition.

Oregon released a statement in which Taggart put the blame for the situation squarely on his own shoulders.

"I have visited with the three young men involved in the incidents in the past few days and I have been in constant contact with their families, offering my sincere apologies," Taggart said. "As the head football coach, I hold myself responsible for all of our football-related activities and the safety of our students must come first."

Related: Report: 3 Oregon football players hospitalized after team workouts

In the statement, it was also announced that strength and conditioning coach Irele Oderinde has been suspended without pay for one month.

"I have addressed the issue with our strength and conditioning staff, and I fully support the actions taken today by the university," Taggart added. "I want to thank our medical staff and doctors for caring for all of our young men, and I want to apologize to the university, our students, alumni, and fans."

Following his suspension, another condition of Oderinde's punishment is that he will no longer report directly to Taggart, but rather to Andrew Murray, the director of performance and sports science at the university.

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Arizona Wildcats recruit My-King Johnson is set to become the first active openly gay scholarship player in major-college football history.

"I do feel like when I say that [I'm gay], it can put a target on my back. But whatever," Johnson told The Arizona Daily Star.

The 6-foot-4, 225-pound defensive end starred at Tempe High School. He signed with the home-state Wildcats after verbally committing to Pac-12 Conference rival UCLA.

The Daily Star reported that Johnson said he was gay to Arizona defensive line coach Vincent Amey during the recruiting process. Johnson said Amey replied that "we want you to be a Wildcat."

Unbelievable. I can’t believe the committee put Alabama in the playoff. 6 reasons why:

1) every time I mention about x team is undefeated and they should be ranked #1, the argument I get thrown back at me is “strength of schedule.” Well let’s look at strength of schedule this year.
Alabama’s best win is against #12 LSU. Ohio State has beaten two top 4 teams this year. So the strength of schedule argument goes out the window.

2) Ohio State is a power 5 conference champion, Alabama didn’t even play in their conference championship.

3) Auburn beat both Georgia and Alabama during the last month. This would be good enough to win the National championship, if Alabama was ranked 1 or 2 in the playoff. Auburn is better than Alabama at least, and even strength with Georgia. So it’s a slap in the face for them.

4) you are essentially punishing not only Ohio State for beating Wisconsin by keeping them out, but the entire big 10. So it indirectly also punishes the other top teams in what was arguably one of the top 3 conferences this year, if not the top: penn state, Wisconsin, Michigan, Michigan state.

5) making Clemson play Alabama in the playoffs for the 3rd straight year is a slap in the face not only to clemson, who has to slog through Alabama yet again, but also college football fans in general who have to sit through yet another clemson vs Alabama matchup in the playoffs.

6) rewarding Alabama for....what, exactly? They haven’t beaten a top 10 team. They didn’t play in their conference championship. They ended their season with a loss. What have they done to prove they deserve a spot in the playoff?

If anybody can refute these 6 points, please do so!
..

Stanford wins 17-3 over USC

Arizona State upsets #15 Michigan State 16-13 in Tempe, under new coach Herm Edwards and are 2-0.

Colorado beats Nebraska on the road 33-28. They are 2-0 with back-to-back road wins, last week at CSU.

Arizona gets waxed in Houston 45-18. They are 0-2 under new coach Kevin Sumlin.

Cal beats BYU in Provo 21-18 and is 2-0 under new coach Justin Wilcox. Previous win over UNC.

#8 Oklahoma waxes UCLA 49-21 in Norman. UCLA is 0-2 under new coach Chip Kelly. Lost their home opener to Cincinnati last week.

Washington, Oregon and Oregon State blow out weak opponents while Utah barely squeaks by NIU.

Ah man, the ducks had them and fumbled with 1:30 left. Then they lose in OT.

Stanford just has Oregon's number. Last year The Cardinal beat Oregon by some insane score...like 38 - 3 or thereabouts. It's all about matchups. Just like how Utah can't ever match up with Washington, and BYU can't ever match up with Utah.

So I watched Colorado (4-0) slaughter UCLA last night. Right now I'd say the Buffaloes are the best team in the South. As long as their QB says healthy they well be a force to be reckoned with. Their QB reminds me of Tim Tebow as he is big, strong, athletic, fast with a reasonable arm and he just keeps the chains moving on pure desire.

The Pac continues to eat itself alive from a playoff standpoint.

But on a positive note the Utes now control their own destiny :-)

I actually really like how the PAC is competitive top to bottom. We hear a lot about the SEC, but in reality they have several great teams and a bunch of shitty teams. Ditto the Big 10, the Big 12 mirrors the PAC and is usually fun to watch top to bottom.

Yeah, I know it sucks for how the mythical playoffs are structured, but I prefer to watch good football. I mean watching Alabama play Missouri yesterday... YAWN...

YMMV

Great matchups next week as the Trojans come to Salt Lake City and Colorado travels to Seattle. Hell next week at this time Colorado could be on a two game skid.

And how about UCLA beating Cal by 30 points - who saw that coming? The Bruins have been sleep walking up till now. Did they just wake up?

Yeah, crazy stuff.

See the timeline:
#20 Oregon beats #7 Stanford
Utah beats #14 Stanford
#17 Oregon beats #7 Washington
USC beats #19 Colorado

Next:
#12 Oregon plays #25 Washington State. Upset Alert?

There are only 3 teams left in the Pac with one loss:
1. Oregon (might lose this week)
2. Washington State (still has Washington and Colorado)
3. Colorado (will probably lose at Washington this week, still has Washington State)

They also have Utah still on their schedule, which is why Utah controls their own destiny. Winner of the PAC South will have 2 losses and possibly 3, which is why Saturday's game is HUGE.

FWIW - if you're betting Utah is currently favored in all of their remaining games.

The Pac continues to be a dog eat dog conference.

38 Arizona State - 35 USC

41 Oregon State - 34 Colorado

Next week's game against the Sun Devils is HUGE as I believe the winner of the South will have 3 loses. This gives Utah some breathing room in the Oregon game, which is the toughest team on paper they still have to play.

If Utah beats AZ State and Colorado they win the south.

Washington State is 6-1.

Washington Huskies goes down in flames to the Cal Bears.

As of today it's looking like the Cougars and the Utes with the winner playing in the Rose Bowl.

It will be interesting to see how Utah manages to f**k this up because right now the South is gifted wrapped for them. Last time they were in such a position the Utes choked to the 0-10 Buffalos.

Are you sure about that?

This gives Utah some breathing room in the Oregon game, which is the toughest team on paper they still have to play.

Arizona (3-5) just put the wood (44-15) on #19 Oregon (5-2) giving them their 3rd loss and another example of the Pac eating itself alive.

What the hell? I come back from outta town to some alternate universe where dominant Washington falls to Cal, Arizona demolishes Oregon, and Colorado falls to the crappy Beavers.

Utah looking like the most consistent team in the Pac 12 right now. Is this real life?

Once again the Pac continues to eat itself alive. Unranked and 4-4 Arizona State blows out #15 Utah.
