Has anyone measured the longest rappel in lower Imlay?

Tom Jones and Kelsey say 130 feet.

Shane and Bluu Gnome say 110 feet.

It would be nice to take two Imlay Canyon 120's, but it sounds like they may be too short(?).

I've measured it, the last rappel is the longest of the sneak route and is 110'.

Com'on Scott, you should know better, my beta is never short when it comes to rappel length's and rope requirements.

I can confirm that a 120ft will touch. We had that question a few years ago and yes it does.

A problem a person may run into here is rope shrinkage. Just be sure to double-check rope lengths before you go.

My 120' rope has shrunk to 108' and it reached on the last rap

Our last trip:

40' w/pull cord pre tied in bag
60' w/pull cord pre tied in bag
120' in bag

Small, fast and easy to manage

I know that shrinkage problem.

While I appreciate this efficiency, I think there might be some value in traveling with extra rope in the unlikely event of a core shot or other unexpected event like dropping a rope somewhere along the way. Just saying.

Worst case scenario have to pass a knot and maybe rap double strand on 6mm. But I do hear what your saying.

I think it would be easier to manage if you had 3 x 120s; or 1 x 120 and 2 x simulated 120. (simulated 120 = 60 foot rope w 60 foot pull cord pre tied in the bag).

That way, you don't have to worry about getting the right rope on the rappels, can can do the guided rap over that nasty pothole to the top of the 2nd to last rappel, and use any rope on the 2nd to last, and still have your 120 to rig on the last rappel.

Maybe it is my business background, but I like to make things easy to manage. Not using the 40 foot rope on the 50 foot rappel is not easy to manage... bringing a little more rope to increase flexibility and minimize management issues is Easy to Manage.

My preference is similar to Tom's. I perfer to do Imlay with two 120' ropes as it allows you to leap frog the ropes at all the rappels and combine them for the final. Id have no issues adding a third 120 if I had the horsepower on the trip to pack a third, but I usually do Imlay with a small group (meaning 2 or 3).
