The 6th edition of Kelsey's Boater's Guide to Lake Powell is fresh off the press. So far I've only had a chance to thumb through the book. Most of the new stuff is history; Cass Hite, the very small communities of Hite and White Canyon and the pilot uranium mill which tried to separate the radioactive copper from the uranium. Also included is the story of Bert Loper, one of the early-day river rats who once pulled & rowed his boat upstream from Lee’s Ferry to Hite. Also included is the Long Walk of the Navajos, when Kit Carson rounded up most Navajos and marched them to Fort Sumner in eastern New Mexico in 1864 and then the walked back in 1868.
