Has anyone done Lions Back?

I did it once in my '78 Bronco and didn't like it at all. Going up was easy, but turning around on top with a 4 speed tranny sucked. Coming down wasn't fun either. I would have liked it a lot more with an auto tranny.

Was hanging around there once and some Moab locals showed up. One young kid was driving one of the old Bronco II's and instead of pulling up to the hill straight on, he backed up to it and drove to the top in reverse. He didn't creep up it either. Crazy!

Sweet video:

That's cool, I wonder how they got access, I can't remember who officially owns it now. I went up a few times, and the only footage I have is this crappy VHS conversion.

Wow, I had thought that Lions Back was closed off after more than one vehicles dropped off. I think there's a YT video of someone in a station wagon riding it.

I'm not aware of any deaths or serious injuries on Lions Back. The only 2 serious accidents that I'm aware of is of the infamous Chev Blazer that lost it's brakes and of one other vehicle (Toyota pickup comes to mind) that slid off the top and became wedged into the crack on the east side. But, they were trying to descend the fin on the north end, not the normal route back down. Neither accident had serious injuries.

Here are some pics of mine. No action shots of me, because nobody cared about getting pics of Dave :facepalm1:

But I do have one of me at the top just to prove that I was there.

My friend Curtis in his '73 K20 (Lincoln Locker in the rear, or he preferred to call it a 6011 Spool :haha:).

Me on L Curtis on R.

Curtis and other friend Jeff in front of my '78 Bronco (Detroit Lockers F and R).

The next two pics are on a different day. I'm taking pics from the Hell's Revenge Trail for a different perspective.

This is my friend Brian in a early '90's full size Ford F-250 with cheap locker (can't remember the name of it) in rear.

Jeff and his '77 (?) GMC short bed pickup truck (another cheap locker in rear).

Great pics Dave!! My fav pic is that 2nd to last pic showing off that angle of Lions. I'm sure that was a riot back then with those older trucks.

I believe it was closed because it was a piece of state or city land(?) that was sold and that the owner closed it off. Or maybe whoever owned it before allowed access?

You must be thinking of the Baby Lions Back, which is not the same thing and much easier.

Whenever I think of Lions back, I am reminded of this terrifying video:

No, I love those Crown Vic videos (there are a few others of him riding Hell's Revenge: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KFwPXEeJ3aI ), but maybe I was mistaken.

My favorite Lion's Back video is this one. Makes me laugh and sweat at the same time.

Use to go up it on a regular basis. If you really want to load your shorts go off the back side. Did that once never again. The property is owned by a developer, he is in the process of getting that whole area approved for condos. Supposedly it's getting pretty close to happening. Same reason the dump bump got closed right there by the fee hut.

Ain't that the way it goes? My video, as terrible as it is, was actually a combination of 3 different camcorders that I asked to film me. 1 was running out of tape, the other running out of batteries, and the 3rd one.... couldn't figure out how to start recording. You know, by pressing the little red button on the thumb? So basically all of my friends and family get some SWEET pictures of them while I'm there, and nobody gives a crap about the camera guy, unless they're begging you to "burn the pictures to a CD" after the trip.
