All this heavy marketing for the movie has me a bit turned off. I love sci-fi, oh yes I do...but just about every supermarket you go into has a stinking stormtrooper staring at you.

Only one more day and I will gleefully be able to read all about the plot. I'll go see it in a month or two...all the bang/flash/shoot 'em up effects are all I'm interested in anyway.

Where will you read the plot?

Wikipedia usually summarizes the plot of every movie right after it comes out.

For example, Mocking Jay Part 2:

We saw the movie last night. It was pretty good. I'm glad they didn't put any annoying creatures in this time for comic relief (i.e. Jar Jar Binks). Although the effects were very good, the movie has more of a "feel" of the older Star Wars Movies, rather than the 1990's ones.

I watched it again for a 2nd time yesterday and caught a few interesting things, not to mention that re-watching the trailers I caught even more of the expanded plot, in light of the knowledge from the movie.

Is it safe to talk about em yet?? Use a SPOILER tag?

In the rumor mill lead up to this movie, it was said that Luke is guarding the tomb of an ancient Sith. Was there a name on the grave?

There wasn't unfortunately.

After watching it a second time I realized that this person wasn't staring into the ocean but this headstone. The angle of the perspective makes you think he is looking into the ocean.

Also, apparently, if you listen to the light sabers hitting each other there are voices supposedly from Ewan McGregor (the new Obi wan kenobi).

Also when Ray (the young heroine) has a flashback you will hear a short narration from a familiar voice "Rey, these are your first steps". That voice is again Ewan McGregor, ever though he said earlier that he hated the franchise and wouldn't be caught dead in another one. Surprise! Ha ha

Also if you notice Kylo Ren's lightsaber, you will see that that it kinda flickers like a flame. No one else's lightsaber does that. And I'm wondering if that's because he is still in "training" and hasn't finished it yet.

If you listen to when Kylo Ren is using the force to read Rey's mind, notice for some particular words that he says... Kinda interesting.

Anyway, there's just a few more things to chew on.

I think Rey is Luke's daughter.

The movie was setup to make you think that..... So it will not happen, as Rey's true parents will be the twist in the sequel.

I believe Ren already knows who Rey actually is.

And my kids were watching a pirated copy of the the new Star Wars yesterday and Luke is definitely standing next to a headstone in the final scene. At first it appears he is gazing out at the ocean but as the camera pans back he is really gazing at what appears to be a headstone.

I can't believe I'm actually nerdy enough to know this crap.... :lol8:

No one can tell (designed that way im sure).

Best guesses are that its Luke's wife. And when he sees Rey's face, Luke is more concerned with Rey (daughter perhaps? which ties into the vision that Rey say and her desire to return to Jakku since she is waiting for her family to return) that then the lightsaber.

Nerd out here, but if Luke truly become a Jedi, he wouldn't have gotten married, he would have left the life of companionship behind. It could be the grave of one of his padowans.

I think we'll learn who Rey's parents were and why they left her at Jakku. She was probably dropped there for protection from Snoke, similar to the Skywalker twins being broken up and hidden. I don't think Rey knew Luke, she thought he was just a myth, but I think Han knows exactly who she is. This is why he personally oversaw her extraction from the Star Killer base, and he told Fin not to worry, that they won't be leaving there without her.

Han told Maz at her place all about Rey and how she was waiting for somebody to come back to Jakku, so Maz knew who Rey was too and that her future wasn't with who she was waiting for, but it was with Luke and the Jedi training.

And finally Kylo Ren meets Rey, he says this is the girl he's heard so much about. He and Snoke know there is much more to Rey.

If I remember correctly there was a book series years ago where Han and Leia had twins with one turning to the dark side. The overall arc was Luke then had to train the female twin and she was forced to kill her brother. I never read the series but I have a couple of friends who are die hard fans that have. Disney has already stated the book series has no bearing on the movie plot or timeline, for whatever that is worth.

Yeah...I haven't even seen the movie yet and I'm geeking out on the stinkin' thing!

Oh well, something to do on a cold day between football action and commercials.

The main theories on the internet seem to be all about Rey...who is she related to?

I don't think she's the daughter of Luke or the niece of Han. She spends a lot of time with Han in this movie, right? Wouldn't he have acknowledged that?

Another theory is that she was being trained (with others) by Luke when Ren went bad. Why wouldn't she remember that, even if she were quite young? Somebody pulled a Jedi "memory wipe" on her?...that would be a stupid part of the plot. I don't think she was a Jedi in training.

Nobody seems to know who Rey is, expect apparently Ren. Does she recognize him at first glance? If not, then perhaps she is someone he has "heard of"...perhaps she was recognized as having the force as an infant by parents that have nothing to do with anybody else in the series. Kinda like Anakin, a "force baby".

Hey man, maybe she's the daughter of the athletic Sith dude in Phantom Menace! Wadda ya think of that...hmmmm?

OK, saw the movie today. On one hand it was great, on the other it had it's disappointments. I also am pretty sure I know who Rey is, as it's so obvious as to who she isn't. She's not Lukes daughter or Rens cousin in any way. Ren doesn't really know who she is. Her parents are certainly dead. All of this is in plain sight in the movie. She was Obi-wan all over the place...somehow she has ties to him. I'd bet a granddad on that if anyone wants to take the bet.

So...the crappy part. WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT SNOKIE THING??? For cryin' out loud, can't they do better than that? Abrams pulled the same stupid stunt in the first Star Trek movie, with that giant CGI monster chasing Kirk around the snow. What's with these stupid monsters? The appearance of that thing was like Ted Danson showing up in Saving Private Ryan...it just stopped the movie dead in it's tracks. Now we have to watch that big, dumb thing get vanquished somehow.

A little too much action...one chase scene after another with so little real dialogue in between. This movie "felt" like Star Wars, but the first two movies had a lot more drama mixed with the action. Kind of like Luke hanging out with Yoda...I guess that's all too slow these days?

Man, does Carrie Fisher look terrible! It was distracting. I see that she's getting pissed about people taking notice of it. Quite frankly, if she can figure a way to wiggle out of anymore of these movies, that would suit me just fine. It's shocking to me how much alcohol and drugs really jack some people up, ages them hard. Luke doesn't look so hot either, his nose looks like it's been broke a few times. He looks like he drinks a lot, too.

By the way, there is no headstone where he's standing. As was said earlier in the movie, he's guarding the tomb that is the very essence of the Force, both dark and light. I think his presence is to strengthen the light side, helping Rey become so good, so fast.

When she shows up with the lightsaber, it's like "Now it's time to fight".

Great, more intense action scenes!!! But on the good side of all this, the special effects were absolutely top shelf.

Sombeech

I don't think Snoke is that big, it's just the hologram. Snoke is rumored to be Darth Plagueis, the one spoken of by Palpatine that learned how to stop death. Then Darth Sidious (Palpatine) thinks he killed him, his master. Now he's back, as he's been orchestrating the rise and fall of the Empire all along, and is now influencing General Hux with the First Order, and training Kylo Ren of the Knights of Ren.

Yeah Carrie Fisher looks old. I think she could have dramatically improved her performance as Leia by opening her mouth a lot more as she spoke, instead of the small opening preventing the dentures from falling out.

It may or may not be a tombstone that Luke is at, but he's at the original Jedi Temple site. As I watched it over and over again, I do see a rock that resembles a headstone, to the right of Luke in these shots

Hahahaha!...And I though I was harsh!

Before seeing the movie, my eyes were keen to scope out the "headstone"...it's just a rock, you can see it pretty close with the first shot of him standing there. If it's a marker, it's really weak. Anyway, we know he's at the Supreme Tomb, for what that will mean.

The part of Palpatine explaining the worst of the worst must have escaped me...as my brain was reeling with all the CGI in that stinking movie. The next two were even worse.

Damn dude...I thought I was a geek on this stuff...

And during the closing scene, if you look close you'll notice a figure exiting out the top right of your screen just above Luke's head. This figure is the ghost of Christmas many light years from today. Consequently, Luke has just discovered that it's his name on the headstone. This is a large reason why the release date was set to coincide with Christmas.

J.J. Abrams gives a big clue about Rey's parents in 'Star Wars'

J.J. Abrams gives a big clue about Rey's parents in 'Star Wars'

(CNNMoney) J.J. Abrams just gave a big clue to one of the biggest mysteries in the "Star Wars" universe.

Speaking at New York's Tribeca Film Festival on Friday night, the director of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens, said that the parents of the film's heroine, Rey, were not in the hit Disney film.

"Rey's parents are not in Episode VII," Abrams said to the audience. "So I can't possibly at this moment tell you who they are."

The fact the character played by Daisy Ridley can use the film's all powerful Force has fans of the saga speculating that she may be the daughter of "Star Wars" characters like Luke Skywalker or Princess Leia and Han Solo.

However, Abrams' comments appear to take those characters out of the running seeing that they were all in "Force Awakens."

Since opening in December, "The Force Awakens" has shattered box office records before going on to make more than $2 billion worldwide.

The next film in the series, Episode VIII, is set for release on December 15, 2017.

Maybe Episode VIII will have a character tell Rey, "I am your father," but until then fans will just have to keep guessing.

It was pretty good, but the Mary Poppins scene floating in space was weird (you will see what I mean).

Other than that the movie was good, but Kylo Ren just doesn't make a very convincing ultimate bad guy. At the end of Rogue One, for example, Darth Vader was a real bad***, but Kylo Ren just isn't that intimidating.

In my opinion at least, this scene in Rogue One for example makes you fear Darth Vader a lot more than you do Kylo Ren.

By comparison, Kylo Ren is more like your big brother that picks on you every once in a while.

Scroll down for a spoiler:

Snoke may not be dead, it might have been another hologram, similar to Luke's trick he played. He might be allowing them to think he's dead.

The title for Star Wars IX has a good chance of being named "Black Diamond", which is what Snoke wears on his ring, taken from under Darth Vader's castle on Mustafar.

I believe that is a misdirect, remember it was Kylo Ren telling her that when he was trying to seduce her into joining him.

I think they are trying to set us up for another "Luke, I am your father" moment. Or at least a "Leia is your sister" surprise, but the one thing you can be sure of is Rey's parents were somebody's as that has been the main question throughout the last two movies.

There were only about 20 of us in there and we all cheered when the Death Star exploded. About a week later, I took my friend Frankie and this time the place was packed. Everybody cheered when the Death Star exploded.

Nice. I was 17 and was fortunate to have seen the original Star Wars on opening day at the old Centre Theater in downtown Salt Lake. I had never even heard of the movie (way before internet and pre-release hype back then was pretty much non-existent). My sci-fi nerd brother had heard of it and went alone mid-day. When he came home he immediately grabbed me saying, you've got go back with me right now and see this film! So, we drove back into Salt Lake from Kaysville, I was blown away form the opening scene to the end!

I was also 17 and watched the original Star Wars opening weekend at the Center Theater. We went early Sunday morning and it was packed but had a few open seats. When we left the lines were huge. People were standing in line at noon to get into the evening showings.

Those old huge theaters were a lot of fun when a major new movie hit the market.

Star Wars opened on Wednesday, May 25, 1977. We went on that Wednesday and there was no line at all. I think between Wednesday and the weekend, word of mouth about the film had spread like wildfire, hence the crazy weekend crowds. From what I recall, the Centre Theater was one of a very small handfull of theaters in the US who agreed to show the film. Of course within a week every theater in the country wanted it.

I remember the day well as we listened to the Indy 500 on the radio on the way home. This was back before The 500 was broadcast live. This was also back when Indy was the biggest single day sporting event in the world, even bigger than the Superbowl :-)

What an absolute piece of shit. As soon as Luke said "I've come to this island to die" I felt like walking out of there. That one line demolished any interest I had. They turned Luke into a pathetic, sad sack.

This movie was a mishmash of Empire Strikes Back and Attack of the Clones. Same story as Empire, blended with the cartoon aspect of Clones. Way too much melodrama, with all these teary eyed faces. They're doing way too much funky stuff with the Force, man. I'm not diggin' it.

I see in the trailers that they're going to pair up Thor with friggin' Groot. What the heck? Just put them all in a blender.

Speaking of trailers, I'll tell you what...Ron Howard's daughter is SMOKING HOT.

I too though it was total shit. Just was reluctant to piss on the love parade here... but as long as you opened that door!..

Worst actress in the history of film got way too much screen time - more post death than while she was alive. And all the post production efforts to make her a final star only reinforced her lack of talent. Only one actor from the original could actually act... and he was killed off in the last episode. I loved all of the Hamill moving over the years,.. wait he was only in some corvette movie and shit canned after that.

Bring back Princess Almadea - and add some titty scenes. Even Axe could support that.

That ain't happening. They know whether you hate it or love it, they'll get your $12 for the ticket. If your kids love it though, they get their $12 ticket and their $250 in random merchandise. And their trip to Disneyland for the new Star Wars Land....

It's a chastity belt.

Anyway, even if that is a woman, it just isn't sexy.
