False Kiva

With free National Park day on the recent Veteran's Day holiday, my better half and I visited False Kiva in Canyonlands National Park. The hike was fairly short, but with about 800 feet elevation drop, then gain coming back out. The kiva sets in a beautiful location, as noted from the countless calendar pictures we have seen of the spot. We passed several groups coming out as we headed in. They left the alcove for us to enjoy alone. Total hike time was 1 1/2 hours with a 1/2 spent in the alcove. A very nice short hike while in the area of the Island in the Sky District.

Hiked it with my daughters last spring, and like you, the only people we encountered were on their way out. Loved the hike and the stunning view coupled with silence and solitude.

I tried to find this the last time I was in Canyonlands. From what I understood, we took the Aztec Butte trail, but never found the area where the False Kiva branched off..we ended up hiking up to the butte and viewing the ruins, but went back to the car disappointed I couldn't locate the trail to the Kiva. Does anyone have GPS coordinates to the trailhead?
