James, Evan and I went up to the Granddaddy basin this weekend, starting from the Grandview trailhead. We arrived at the parking lot after dark and hiked in a bit and camped before he pass. Then we hiked up to Pine Island lake and spent a night there, passing Fish Hatchery lake. On the way out we took the loop passing Palisade lake.

It was cold! We got hailed on a few times, but the nights were clear. The lakes didn't have much fish either but it was a fun trip. I packed way too much food as always.

We figure we logged about 12 miles. We saw a few deer, nothing else, no sign nor rumor of bear or anything else.

Have not been in the Grand Daddy drainage for a long time.

I did pack into Red Castle last week for four days of camping. Wind blew the entire time we were there, we came out Saturday. Figured we would avoid all the holiday weekend visitors. Lots of fish in the streams, But the lakes were always covered in White Cap waves from the high winds, So didn't fish them much.

Yeah it was windy almost the whole time. And a cold wind at that. I'd like to get up to red castle sometime too
