After the opening bell, stocks dropped 1,000 points, and corrected by midday to close down 588 points. This comes after it shed 530 points on Friday.

So, is this a sequel to the "Great Recession" of 2008, or what is going on here?

Market correction to Chinese market fakery that's catching up to them. It will shake out the poorly structured investors and that's about it.

I'm not too worried about it. In 2008, my stock account dropped about 15-20% in total, but during then and now, it grew by at least 60%. I think yesterday, I lost less than 10% total and see this as a great opportunity to buy while some prices are low/down.

Stocks rebound as 'Black Monday' turns into 'Turnaround Tuesday'http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/markets/2015/08/25/stocks-tuesday/32317511/

I doubt a "turnaround Tuesday" is going to save the day. This whole week should be pretty volatile. Tomorrow should be either down again or flat as investors seek clear direction.

Turnaround Tuesday took a dive there at the end, ending down over 200 points.

Thus far, the drop isn't even remotely close to the one in 2008.

I'm not going to worry about all this crap for at least 12 more years. Most of my life long chunk is in real estate anyway.

I would imagine that this must be a wild ride for those in their 60s. Isn't that something? All these people born in the Fifties and late forties getting batted around.

12 years? Who knows....

The Stock Exchange is not the economy. The indexes reflect investor confidence in short term gains generally.

Yes and no.... when the stock market tanks folks stop spending which hurts the economy, so they are certainly intertwined.

But what the hell do I know, I only lost $50,000 today.

Sort of. it wasn't money in a cash sense or real value. The stock market is about the current value of perceived future profits. Today you learned your speculative perception may not be accurate. But it might be better again in the future.

Volatility in the market (wild swings up and down in a short time frame) are usually a bad omen, and usually precedes a significantly large dip in the market. Buckle up gents, we could be in for a wild ride.
