The long-awaited report from the Senate Finance Committee on the IRS’s targeting of conservative groups included emails that prove that the agency looked into the finances of Bristol Palin, according to an article published by USA Today.

Bristol Palin, the daughter of former vice-Presidential candidate Sarah Palin, was paid over $320,000 to be a celebrity spokesperson for Candie’s Foundation. Lerner expressed concern that the arrangement violated IRS rules since individuals are not allowed to profit from the activities of charitable organizations.

Finance Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch cited an email from Lerner as an example of how the IRS showed specific “interest in conservative organizations.”

The excerpt from Lerner’s email to her staff said this:

“Thoughts on the Bristol Palin issue? I’m asking because I don’t know whether to send to Exam as a referral.”
There is no evidence that a referral or investigation was actually done, but it clearly shows that particular attention was paid to The documents reveal multiple discussions about conservatives organizations, despite previous assertions to the contrary.

The report evaluated 1.5 million pages of emails between various IRS officials and staffers. Some of these emails, while not directly related to the IRS’s targeting and harassment of conservative groups, showed deeper insight into Lerner’s personal thoughts.

One email included this comment from Lerner:

“Look my view is that Lincoln was our worst president not our best. He should (have) let the south go. We really do seem to have 2 totally different mindsets.”
The conclusion of the report shows that the IRS certainly became involved in political activities. If the release of this information results in criminal referrals is not yet known.

It's a worst nightmare scenario. I wish right and left would agree that politicizing the tax agency is so poisonous to our country. She and others have to be prosecuted. But I suspect the Democrats will put up an iron wall fight to stop such.
