This is one of my new favorite dishes and I'm having a hard time finding anyone in Salt Lake that has it on the menu.

The ability to order a beer and/or margaritas with my molcajete is a major plus/requirement. I don't believe that is possible at the Redwood location.

FWIW- Brodys in Cedar City has awesome molcajete. This is also the location that got me hooked on this dish.

ha. no such thing as a boughten margarita in a Utah resto - just make it up at home and bring it with ya.

"molcajete" is not actually a dish. It's the basalt thing that they're serving it in. It's used with a "tejolote" to crush things for cooking. In English these two things are called a "mortar and pestle". This is not a term generally used to describe a Mexican dish so it's hard to say where it might be found. "Mexican" restaurants in the USA generally serve dreary Tex-Mex food. There are great restaurants in Mexico.

Yes, we're aware of what the vessel is called. This is pretty common throughout the world to call the dish after the vessel it's prepared or served in. Paella, hot pot, tupi olla, cassola/casserole...

Actually in Utah (and many other area's) the dish is noted as molcajete on the menu. It might not be the proper term in Mexico, but if you use the term here people in the area understand what you are looking for.

If you look at this menu you will understand:

Thanks, this is what I was looking for :-)

Also found that Salsa Leedas in Riverton has great molcajete, but it's not always on their menu and only offered as a special. I asked why this is and they said it depends on when the ingredients are available.

Hahaha.... what color is the sky in your world?

Why would I go do all that work when I can pay someone to do it?

Same reason you rebuilt and drive a 1970 Vette. You get something out of it. And you can do it cheaper than hiring it out.

Of course, what people enjoy varies.

We had Molcajete's here yesterday, they were good, nice restaurant, I think we were the only ones in the place that didn't speak Spanish.

Brody's in Cedar City is still my favorite. My daughter goes back to school next moth at SUU so I'll be able to visit them again.
