Some pretty good rains must have fallen in the North Wash area in the last few days. Every place that could collect water in East Leprechaun did.
The most surprising thing about the water was how fresh it seemed - not a trace of that particular and unique essence of sewer smell. The water wasn't that cold either.
Both chambers and the hallway at the end of the slot section were quite full.
For some in our party this was their first canyon and so, along with the water levels and everything else this wonderful canyon has to offer, it was a great first experience.

Thanks to all of my canyoneering partners Justin, Jeremy, Bobbie, Jessica, Koda, Shaya, Dejah, Ericka, Alijeh and Elijah who made this trip so much fun.

Nice crew Doug! Reminds me of the old days... We were camped at the head of Witch's Cauldron for the weekend and yes there was quite a good bit of rain Saturday afternoon and evening.

How are the gnats in North Wash at the moment? They usually become a problem about this time of year but with the unusual weather i was wondering if they have arrived yet?

Oh yes the gnats, I forgot about them. Actually a couple showed up around the time we were getting ready to leave ( around 5:00pm) and even then it was hardly noticeable. I think the weather down there lately has put a damper on their activity - just a guess on my part. There was no sign of them heading to the canyon and in the canyon. It was a very nice day in the North Wash area.

Oh that explains the fresh water in Lep - never seen it like that. It was quite pleasant actually and not really cold. I remember when we first did that canyon ( was it 11 years ago? ) and we had to walk that last dark hall section when it was full and the water was ice cold and stinky. That smell lingered in my 4-runner for days after that. I am concerned that the recently crafted canyoneers will get the wrong impression about pothole water. :lol8:

Awesome, as I think North Wash might be my fall back plan this weekend if we can't get into the canyons we want.
