Someone just sent me this link that has a 3D interactive map through part of Wire Pass. Very impressive.

That's pretty cool, it took me a minute to figure out how to navigate.

That is super cool. It would be great to have something like that with beta overlayed on it. Do you know how they made it?

They use a special digital camera with laser range finding built in. The camera costs $4500 and you also subscribe to a service that will store and process the 3D image data.

I'm particularly impressed with the UI, especially how the circle-cursor changes orientation along the slot walls.

In a few more years and beta spayers will be able to add a digital 3D walkthrough to their route description. With the ability to add a video and Google Earth file we are almost already there.

I'm amazed how far things have advanced since I started Climb-Utah.com 17 years ago. Back than I had to be very careful about adding pictures as most folks were on dial-up connections. It would often take over a minute for one of my maps to load.
