Beginning June 1st Goblin Valley State Park will begin charging $2 for a Goblin's Lair Permit.

The permits will still only be available at the Visitor Center.
And so it begins... this is looking like a repeat of Zion on a smaller scale. In Zion the permits at first were free and voluntary, the idea of the permit was to get the canyoneers and backcountry rangers to network together. Next the permits were free and required. The park soon discovered they needed money to cover the cost of their new program so the permits were $5, which has snowballed into the current clusterf**k.
I expect the same thing will eventually happen in Arches NP.
