Benign canyon, a drainage in Beaver Creek, a tributary of the Dirty Devil River.
This was our first journey into the Beaver Creek Area. This creek reminds me of other drainages found in the Robbers Roost area although it retains the unique rock wall formations that are typical of the Dirty Devil River area... It is a cool looking canyon. From the drive in it is hidden from view for the most part. Sort of takes one by surprise when you near the canyon.
Don’t bet on Benign being boring. Broadly, Benign (genial, cordial, approachable) is based on appearances - We used that word “appears” a lot in this canyon. What appeared at first always was different in the outcome. The formidable appearing mid canyon keeper pothole once mastered seemed a little benign with a partner assisted drop in and climb out with a well placed meat anchor. All of the stepped down climbs are just hard enough.
The Beta promised foliage thrash in Beaver creek bottom was a hoot with the help of the hollowed out cow paths through the thick willow trees.
Is Benign boring? NOPE! VERY fun, VERY scenic and plenty of canyoneering experiences throughout.
Thanks to Dave Pimental for pioneering this canyon and making the Beta available
Thanks to my canyoneering partners: Granddaughter Dejah, Son Justin, and friend Jeremy for accompanying me in this canyon and for taking some great pictures.
