I saw on candition.com that Blarney is wet and muddy and miserable right now. How is Middle Leprechaun after rains? Muddy and miserable as well?

Thanks in advance.

After a rainstorm I'd bet all of the Blarneys/Leps are dry in less than a week. Any water left *should* be avoidable.

EXCEPT for the chamber at the bottom of the Leps. It can hold a LOT of water when the sand gets flushed out. Full swimmer, 10+ feet deep.

Luckily, it is easy to hike up from the bottom and check that out. Or ask around before going.

You think even in the winter?

Lower Leprechaun can be completely dry or a swimmer, depending on how the sand has been arranged by the most recent flood. I would say "normal" conditions is ankle to waist deep wading. Swimming is extremely rare. The only way you can know for sure is to walk up from the bottom and check it out.

Sorry to belabor the point. I'm not so much concerned about the water at the end of the canyon, as the mud during the canyon. I did Blarney once when it was wet and muddy, and it was miserable (like candition is describing it as of Tuesday). Is Leprechaun ever like that?

Yup... but it's rare and the North Wash canyons dry really fast (1 or 2 days).

The weather is looking mighty nice. It is probably dry, but if not, you'll be able to warm up quickly in the sun. :kickit:

(assuming you are going this weekend)

I going canyoneering this weekend and next. I'm leaning towards giving it a try tomorrow. Let's hope it's not too muddy... Thanks for the tips.

The trip turned out great, posted some info on candition. I agree with Iceaxe that Middle Leprechaun is definitely more intense that Alcatraz. Still super fun. Strangely though, I liked the Left (West) fork most of all among the three forks. It doesn't get much hype, but it was really cool.
