Last October I took the family up to Minnesota for a little R&R on Lake One.

Boundary Waters is one of the most pristine places I've ever been. It looks like a postcard when the lakes are glassy.

We opted to leave our phones and computers at home. Hell, we didn't even look at a clock for the entire week!

The last night we were there, at 3AM, we were woken up by the northern lights flashing into our windows. We hurried outside to stand on our private dock to watch them. Awesome!

So cool. I'm totally doing this. Ever read Listening Point by Sigurd F. Olsen?

Ah, looks like a good book. Wish I would have taken it up there. I'll be sure to check it out.

While sitting by the lake I did read Downward Bound by Warren Harding and most of Moby Dick (first time, so awesome).

I looked at about 3 million cabins before I picked the one we stayed at.

We highly recommend these guys: http://www.lakeonecanoes.com/lodging.html

Not only is that lake the most peaceful place on earth, but we also discovered it was a great place to drink scotch and play hammerschlagen with the locals.

Did you haul canoes all the way there or did you rent?

They were free, just sitting next to our private dock the entire week.

Most of the cabin rentals at Lake One come with 1 or 2 free canoes.

The folks at the cabin next to us had a few kayaks that they let us use as well. Folks in Minnesota are so freaking nice.
