I have a friend in Flagstaff who is a climber and I know he's done some canyoneering as well. I would LOVE to have a go at my 1st time at canyoneering and asked him in an email to meet up with me next summer to show me the ropes (literally). He might have some places in mind, but I wanted to get your opinion. If you had the opportunity to see some amazing canyons in southern Utah or even northern AZ and might not get that many opportunities to go again - what would be your top 3 places?

What time of year? Different areas go in and out of season depending on the time of year.

When you say 3 places do you mean 3 canyons or three different areas?

But the short answer to your question is probably Zion NP. It's the epicenter of Colorado Plateau canyoneering. Zion is in season during summer and fall. Zion is where many first get started in the sport.

Sorry, yeah, I forgot to mention early to Mid-June is when we'll go to hopefully beat the oncoming monsoons.

In mid-June you want to head to Zion or the Mogollon Rim.
