Over Christmas my wife and I ventured into the Grand Gulch for some backpacking and photography. We entered via Dripping Canyon and exited from Redman Canyon (just a bit past collins). The temps were cold and the light was difficult making photography hard.
We weren't sure if we could get out from Redman Canyon. So as the afternoon wore on we headed up the canyon. Well the sun was going down and we found ourselves at the base of a dry fall with sketchy looking climbing to get out. At this point we were probably 20ft or so from the rim, so if felt kind of frustrating. But instead of doing something foolish (like climbing a sandstone wall with 40lb packs in the dark) we settled in to camp and look in the morning. Here I found an awesome pool of water and got this pix.
In the end I'm glad we stayed! In the morning we easily found a ledge system and walked out with some minor scrambling.
I hope to post more photos from the Gulch as I organize them!
