Hi! I will be in Cedar City in December. I've been in SW Utah a lot during summer but never winter. Curious about winter hiking. Kolob? Cedar Breaks? Ashdown Gorge? Will be in area for 10 days. Want to do/see as much as I can. Im an ultra runner so long hikes are great. Would like to try cross country skiing and snowshoeing. Any suggestions?
Thanks y'all!
TJ

Ashdown Gorge could be tough then. It's usually buried in snow in the winter, but it may not be good terrain for skiing. Cedar Breaks would be good and is scenic in winter, There are plenty of cross country skiing and snowshoe routes in the area. The hike to Kolob Arch can be good, but in really heavy snow years the road up there can be closed.

If you head down to St George, there area many, many good winter hikes. St George seldom gets snow, so places like Snow Canyon and the lowest elevations of Zion and all the surrounding low elevation areas are usually snow free.

Thanks Scott!
I just wasn't sure how much snow would be around this year. I've been keeping and eye on Bryan Head for snow but can't locate snow accumulation at lower levels and Kolob.
Appreciate the input
Hike on:-)
