Thanks for pointing this out. I finally read Jon Krakauer's Into Thin Air this summer so this helped peace some things together for me.

Someone I know is a helicopter pilot in Nepal. He was recently involved in the recovery/rescue after the last big avalanche.

The caption to the attached photo is:

"Entering into the 'Kumbh' of Sagarmatha [Everest] is a dead end tomb, into the 'dead zone' where Your body begins to slowly die.
Here seen climbing through 20,000' surrounded by Everest 29,035' Lhotse 27,940' Nhuptse 25,791' a 4.4nm deep, dead end valley from where, escape is the same way out, or over the top near camp 2, was flying at 22,200' AMSL which was 150' AGL"

My pal Simon is a bit busy again flying evacs. He's one of the few who can operate to those altitudes.

This was his picture at Base Camp 24th April before the avalanche: .http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/h338/rotors99/ADDCDCE6-EBE3-48C0-BFCB-D4347AE9C031.jpg

It must be a grim task now; 5 cadavers loaded per trip.
