View Full Version : West Rim Trail hike turns into flooding show

Back in mid-September amidst some of the days Zion got some serious rain, we took a jaunt up the WRT and on return got soaked. Was a unique experience for me since I have never been out in this area when flooding starts. Most of the footage is from just below the Behunin entrance down to the wooden bridge crossing Telephone Canyon. As most of you know, once it starts raining hard, things can change fast.

Nothin is quite like a lot of rain in the desert, eh?

Nice! Isn't flash flooding great from that point of view? Cool movie, great experience I bet!

I myself experienced the storm in Zion on last Sept 27th. Only now having time to start sorting pics, I'll soon post some pics. I think everything was flooding in Zion that day. An awesome experience for me, being on the safe side of the flash floods.

One final tip, be carefull with taking a 'shower' below these streams or waterfalls, or even getting close to them. I was taking a break below a small ridge, when a stream of water formed directly next to me. And with the water it started raining rocks, a couple of them pretty big (estimate of 7 inch diameter). I'll post some footage soon.

Mrs levity and I also hiked the WRT mid-September when the hurricanes off Baja were sending up moisture.
Nice sunny skies followed by rain, but nowhere as intense as what you experienced.
