I am a die hard book fan, but I have been reading so many expensive texts that I need to give in and get an ebook reader. My problem is that I read large pages of complicated text in seconds, so those little screens would be a nightmare to me and I would be "turning" pages like crazy.
I don't want to spend a lot either. I need something that fits as much texts as a hardback textbook would on a screen and is easy to hold and read lying down.

Do you consciously know when you turn the pages in a physical book? Then you're unlikely to notice turning pages in an ebook either.
Tanya, I think the hard part here is that ebook readers are not too popular. Sure, some use it, but I think most I've noticed use iPads and tablets and the actual physical book(s).
I use a iPad mini for my book reading. It is slower than a physical book, but, I can hold hundreds of books. Although I just have 23 books. Not a ton. But the iPad mini size is perfect for me.
I would recommend going to best buy in Washington city and give all of em a test - a in-person test.
How much is your budget? $200? $500?

A page is a page is a page 'tis true, but what I do on that page is up to me, not you.
Jman, I can go 500, but was hoping for cheaper. I really like the idea of taking them for a test run! I never thought of Best Buy.

Now, I wouldn't buy from best buy personally. But this will allow you to 'test drive' em and actually feel them, feel the screen, compare the brightness (which matters in my opinion in bright sunlight), etc. see which one just feels good ya know? Then from there you can narrow your search, and personally, I would search online like amazon for the cheapest deals.

I'm not sure I can help much, but one thing to think about is whether you want a back-lit screen (if that's the right term, like computer screens and tablets), or something that's more like paper and doesn't wash out in bright sunlight (like the Kindle Paperwhite). I have heard people say that they prefer the paperwhite type screen because they don't get eye strain/fatigue like they do with a tablet. I've got a Kindle paperwhite, from a couple of years ago, and I think the current versions are better than the one I have. They will hold quite a bit, and are light and easy to read lying down. I use mine quite a bit, and it is especially great when I travel - much more convenient than carrying a bunch of books. The batteries last a long time, as long as the wireless is off. Not so long if you stay connected.
One thing I don't like about mine is the formatting for technical books with graphs or diagrams, or a lot of graphics. The resolution can be too low (not always, but often enough to be annoying), and figures can be far enough away from associated text to make referring back and forth between them a real pain. So if I have something that's really heavy with figures, I prefer the actual book. I think the current versions of the Kindle might be better where that's concerned, but I'm not sure. The Kindle paperwhites are ~$100-200, depending on what you get.
Hope this helps.

For what it's worth, I love my Samsung Galaxy 3 tablet with its 10.1" screen. I am an avid reader and thought I'd never go away from a paper copy book but, after reading a couple of books using the Amazon Kindle Reader app, I'm a digital copy believer now. I love the text size, the ease of use and the fact that I can read in ANY light condition, like in the dark while my wife watches TV. The digital copy is also cheaper than the paper version.

I am having a hard time giving up paper too! Those are some great suggestions guys! I found this article too. I had not thought about it, but I read books with lots of charts and diagrams. Sometimes paper books have the text so small it's getting hard for me to read them. The ereader can make it a bit larger. I like the Samsung idea.

The only time I read an actual book these days is when I am borrowing it. I much prefer reading on my tablet.

I love books. I love the smell of them. Rooms filled by them. Books and classical music and wine and I am in heaven. I don't know if a ebook will be the same, but to give my credit card a break I need to go in that direction. :ne_nau:
I don't like story books though. I like neurobiology, neuropsychology, neurochemistry, and that sort of thing. It's my newest hobby.
