You Are My Sunshine Kid's Song?

So, does anyone know why "You Are My Sunshine" is considered a kid's song? That song is one of the saddest songs ever:

I remember it as a kid, but never understood it until my own kids were listing to it on their kid's songs CD's.

Just play it backwards and you'll get your sunshine back. I will say that the fourth stanza is probably grounds for a stalking injunction. :haha:

I think many people just sing the first part. Although I've heard it before, I never really listened really hard to the whole song until my kids would listen to it on the Disney Songs for Kids CD.

I agree. I don't even dislike this song. I just think it's somewhat strange that it's often considered to be a children's song. I've only ever heard it as a children's song.

To be fair, some other kids nursery rhymes have morbid meanings, but they aren't as plain to see as the above song.

You Are My Sunshine - one of four state songs of Louisiana. Written by former governor Jimmie Davis (elected twice with a 20 yr span in between) who prior to being elected La's governor, was a country-western singer. He continued his music career after his first term of governor was completed. This was performed by Jimmie in 1940, and not officially adopted as the state song until 1977. However it has always been considered THE state song anyway. :nod:
