This story is getting some publicity. What are your thoughts? A very sad story indeed...I would be pissed. :nono:

This Geist dude is out of line. Sure, i understand him being angry, hurt and sad. But the value of the childs life outweighs his dog's life. He and his attorney will make fools of themselves in court. The dog is property, the child has full human rights.

The child turned out not to be in that yard, but the search is reasonable and needs to be completed properly.

I would guess not and that there is a good chance of winning.

Anyway, what a tragedy. From the video, it seems that the officers do feel bad that the dog was killed. Likewise, it is likely that the one who did the shooting feels extremely bad. He was probably only there to look for the lost child. I would guess that he at least gets in some kind of trouble as well.

If the dog was roaming the neighborhood and acting threatening I could see it, but since this was in his own yard, I can see how he'd be angry. I have been threatened by unrestrained dogs at times as well, but that's different than one in someone's own yard.

PS, the officer who shot the dog was one of the officers that took down the gunman in the Trolley Square shooting:

Everyone makes mistakes, and is human, but when a police officer does it, the mistake can be drastic.

Don't they carry pepper spray? I think the child was found in their own home???

There is no excuse for what the officer did... end of story!

At the very least the cop should lose his job. The homeowner was breaking no laws and the dog was minding his own damn business in his own backyard.

I felt bad for the cops who had to stand there and take a verbal beatdown from the homeowner for almost 10 minutes. I realize he's upset but he should save his rant for the officer who pulled the trigger.
