I'm doing Imlay canyon via sneak route this weekend on Saturday. Anybody have the most current conditions for the technical sections?

A bunch of friends and I are doing it next week and all of us are bringing drysuits, except for 2 who are bringing a 5mm wetsuit.

It's rained in the past week or two so we are expecting high conditions but are GOING to bring gear for low conditions.

Report back when you return.

Enjoy and be safe!

You could get away with 4/5mm wetsuits. We did Heaps last year at this time in 5/4 or 4/3 with vests and were fine.

I spoke to the backcountry desk and they said as of three weeks ago Imlay was completely full and cold. It's been hot in Zion so it's possible the water's warmed a tad, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Debating whether I want to rent a drysuit or not.

We are also going next week. Planning on 4/3 stacked with neo shorts. Then taking a hooded vest to regulate the hot and cold spots

Went through today via the Right Sneak with my chum Maarten, water levels still highish, easily hooked out of 2 keepers, and did a couple of partner assists and pack tosses, but the majority were easy exits.

Both in 4/3 wetsuits plus Hyperflex fleece tops underneath. My feet were cold a couple of times (2mm neosocks) but my hands were toasty in my new neoprene gloves. Maarten was fine in 3mm socks, but had cold hands on occasions with his finest $3 gardening gloves :-)

Talk of drysuits sounds rather over the top to me, unless one is a complete lizard...

We set a fairly leisurely pace, taking photos, eating/drinking at regular intervals:
0530 set off from Grotto
0945 arrived at Alcove/Crossroads
1030 set off from Crossroads
1600 rapped into Narrows

A. beautiful canyon, and the two of us had it to ourselves all day :-)

Are you sure you don't want 8mm dive suits? Haha!
