Dare I ask?? :assault:

Heading out for week at Ticaboo, then NW. Going to run thru Inferno & Devil's Thumb, HDH. Any idea if that area got hit recently by rains we got here in Colo?
Also have conflicting thoughts/beta on DThumb. Some say dry, but read where Ram says bring wetsuit. I know he is way tougher than me - but also know he goes in much colder months.
Thoughts?

Or we could go, get in over our heads, and DIE, and it's Bootboys fault for not allowing any current canditions!
Oh ya!! :haha:

Part of it depends on who's beta you are using and if you are going through the difficult to anchor pothole section or using the simple walk around. If you are using my beta you will not get in over your heads as it details the simple walk around and notes the pothole section for the hardcore

Using your beta. "Soon you will reach a pothole section that has difficult anchor and partner assist issues"

That is all you say - OK so I assume (?) that going down potholes = wetsuit, walk around nada. :cool2:
Thanks

The next sentence is the key... "This section can be bypassed by route finding to the south (right) and downclimbing into a side drainage that allows you to scramble to the canyon bottom."

But the short answer to your question is I would not use a wetsuit this time of year using either route. Temps should be near 90 and above from here on out.

Yep saw that - thanks. I also know from past posts you are much more cold tolerant than I.
I hope it is 90 - don't mind the heat.

We did DThumb last October when it was half full, 70 - 80 degrees out. No wet suits needed. We did get wet. The top of the canyon has three choices for dropping in, the nasty PH section, the right bypass or the left crack side down(LDC). I think the left crack side down is the best because of the crack down climb, the scenery, the 50 foot rappel into the canyon bottom and a easily stemmed pothole at the bottom of the rappel. All that is missed with the other 2.

You can do part of the canyon, then exit right as Mr. Ice did.

Or you can do that final super-fun section and complete the canyon. Some good slides in that section! And an anchor problem, that is not exactly difficult for canyoneers that know what they are doing, with or without a SandTrap. With a SandTrap it is a snap, but there are other solutions available.
