Mayor Curtis just announced Provo City now owns 80 acres of Rock Canyon. Now and for future generations, the people of Provo will own the canyon, preserving a place of beauty.

Nice!

Draper bought Corner Canyon a few years back and it has been awesome.

I'm really excited. Rocky Canyon has been under threat of development for years. I'm glad that the Canyon has been saved.

The right mayor at the right time. Mayor Curtis is an avid outdoors guy, cyclist, and, apparently, is constantly on the lookout for these types of land deals. At my monthly local USFS committee meeting 2 weeks ago, one of the head Provo parks and recs guys was in attendance. He said the mayor is encouraging his parks and recs people to bring him proposals that are 'outside the box'. This parks and recs guy took him a proposal to turn a bunch of acreage the city already owns in Provo Canyon, into a mtn. biking park geared toward more downhill riding. The area, below Squaw Peak road, already has some non-sanctioned downhill trails. This P&R guy wants to re-build them (with help from the local riders and shops) and make it a destination park. There would also be some more beginner type trails winding throughout the complex. Anyway, the mayor loves the idea and told the P&R guy, "Yes! This is what I want to see!". He is pushing the project forward.
