Best Public Free Places to Camp in Fruita, CO

I'm am headed to Fruita, CO to bike and just wondering where the best camping spots are that are FREE and on PUBLIC land. Also will be taking a dog, so looking for a place that doesn't prohibit dogs. I will be in a car, so i am also restricted to maintained dirt roads.
