I think it sounds pretty fair, though I don't know if it will do much good to spend all the fine money on signs telling people not to disturb the goblins. Maybe part of it, but there are already signs saying not to disturb the goblins.

Unfortunate and disappointing. They should at least have to "adopt-a-highway" along several miles of state road between Hanksville and I-70...and keep their adopted stretch maintained for a minimum of one year.

C'mon Scott. You let them off easy...

Plea in abeyance...:facepalm1:

I certainly wasn't in the crucify him crowd, but dang, even I think this is a bit on the light side.

I'll have to admit, if I ever need a lawyer, I'm calling Scott...

Plea in abeyance...:facepalm1:

Plus a few thousand dollars and the stigma of forever being known as an idiot on the world wide web. Every time someone Googles their names, all of the news stories will show up.

The adopt a highway and community service idea is a good one though.

For those who wanted to make them an example by giving them the felony, to discourage future vandals, this public debacle has already accomplished more to discourage vandals than any felony would. In what way would a felony be effective for the rest of the community?

I agree with Mr Card's efforts to fight the felony charge. It sounds like there will be monetary fines as well. The message was clearly sent for those purely looking for the message. And if there are any laws or policies that the written punishment has not been carried out, I'd be interested to hear about that. :2thumbs:

Notes to self:

When committing vandalism and doing something really stupid, do not post it on youtube.

When claiming disability injuries, do not post self pushing over huge boulders on youtube.

Anyway, let's all hope that the public debacle will certainly discourage vandalism. Of course, there are always more idiots out there (such as the guy who recently stole the dinosaur track.

They should at least be forced to wear t shirts that say 'topple me' for their criminal stupidity.

Only if they can possibly endanger a child :haha:

I expect it would be very harmful to a child if one of those dudes fell on them, they should be toppled constantly. :)

I'm still curious if somebody could show me where this toppled goblin was exactly in the park. You know, for those comparing it to the great wonders of the world. I'm still not defending their actions, and yes it was still a dumbass thing to do, but let's not compare it to plugging up Old Faithful or anything.
