Salt Lake City was the only city from the western U.S. to make the list.

Springfield, Mont.

Maybe they mean Springfield, Missouri?

The best 10 cities for the broke are any ten UK cities you can think of.

The left-wing UK government will send you piles of cash and give you a house. They will in fact give you so much cash that it's not even worth going out to get a job. Free rent; a job-seekers allowance; housing tax benefit; unemployment benefit, etc etc.

Did I mention it's a left-wing government? I was wrong, it's a Conservative right-wing government, but with that exception, all of the above is correct.

Rob,

What you call right wing in the UK is socialist. Your left and right are shades of socialist. Even our US right wing is solidly middle of the road, and the west in general has no serious opposition to the socialist movement anymore.

(Not a happy chappy, but a regular tax payer in the UK)I know that you Brits that work hard and make a good salary really get soaked...those of us over here do too, just not nearly as bad.

The bright side (for me) is that I'm still able to travel (rent a car and not have to sleep in the bushes every night like the hitchhiking crowd) and afford the nicer of things. It's comfortable and I like it...the only way I'd just give up and join the low budget hand out crowd is if the gov. took so much of my money that those things I covet are unattainable. That would truly suck and I hope that day never comes.

No wonder all your rich musicians and actors live elsewhere. Except when they're stupid rich, like McCartney.

Is it coincidence that SLC got listed in the top10 cities for the broke and the top 10 cities for mountain biking the same week? A commentary on the mountain biking crowd?...
